Album Notes
Chris Otto has been playing the Native American Flute for 12 plus years. He has been performing live for years in the St.Louis area, but this is his first full length CD release. While Chris is better known as the flute player for the popular St.Louis Irish Folk/Rock band "Rusty Nail", it was Native American Flute that first inspired him to perform and record. This CD was close to five years in the making, a true labor of love.
Chris played a number of instruments as a youth (trombone, piano, harmonica...) but nothing ever stuck. Once he discovered the Native American Flute, he knew he had found his calling. He hopes to bring NAF music to new audiences and bring the instrument to new styles. Chris has sat in with experimental rock band and jazz musicians in the St. louis area and for a time played with a percussion based World Music jam band, "the Raw Earth Experience". Influenced by folk traditions from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Skandinavia, the Andies and elsewere, Chris hopes to blend these influences into a unique style of play. Having grown up listening to experimental rock and the blues, those styles also find their way into his music. But at it's heart, it is still the natural beauty of the Native American Flute that holds it all together.
As Chris likes to say, "the music is already there inside the flutes, you just have to let it out."
