ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In 1989, a 19 year old English prodigy had a bizzarre idea. The story goes as follows: Chris was signed at
the age of 17 by the indie label 2Lazy People Records. Although his two albums with the label showcased
his slide guitar and theorymastery, by the time he was quickly snatched by the major labels, Chris had
grown bored with the same 'ol thing.
With a major label's distribution and recording budget secured, Chris started his persuit of what he called,
"the sound in his head". Although his new found label wanted to present Chris's shredding ability during the
height of the Hair Metal scene, Chris was persistant on breaking new untrodded ground. Major names in
the musical instrument industry were coming out of the woodwork for a chance to get their instrument' the
CPC brand endorsement, when Chris presented them with his idea of an instrument based on an open
tuning based on slide guitar but played as a regular guitar, all quickly shyed away from such an
experimental concept. After only a few months, and with the label's stock holderer's board breathing down
his back for a release from their new procurement, Chris finally found and instrument company that was
willing to take his gamble. A barely established company half a world away in Los Angeles California were
willing to accept the challenge! The result was an instrument that tuned to a low "A" with the strings
ascending in 5th's. After overcoming the intonation issues and physical obstruction issues, the instrument
had a total of 27 frets in it's final form. With his concept now in fruitation, Chris began the process of
bringing the idea to it's final form.
Once in the studio, the recording that would become In A Fit Of Envy was completed extremely fast, taking
only 3 days, including the time the London Brass Quintet was brought in for what became the Never Works
single! "It would have been complete much faster", Chris recalls, "if only everyone wouldn't have been
wonky of my ideas. Those bloody suited gits argued with me about everything. That completely changed
when they got their first listen of the final mixes." Indeed, at the initial screening, Chris's new sound, a
blending of the newly emerging "Gothic" sound, and the layered "New Wave" style synth, was quickly
dubbed "DarkWave"!
This new branding presented yet another problem. Although the label had specific plans of marketing their
new young artist in the states, it was quickly decided that American audiences, in the thraws of the
Hollywood Glam movement at the time would little comprehend the dark makeup and black fishnet fashion
that went with Chris's new sound. As a result, In A Fit Of Envy was only released in Europe, Asia, and
Australia, since, going through 6 pressings and achieving gold status!
