ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This debut cd was recorded shortly after Christopher James returned from living and performing in Clarksdale, Mississippi and throughout Texas. The whole cd was recorded "live" in the studio, with no overdubs or editing, over two intense days of playing. Christopher James' guitar playing is reminiscent of Buddy Guy's explosive style. The drummer, Mike Kuhl, brings a fiery jazz influenced energy to the music much like Mitch Mitchell with Jimi Hendrix or Elvin Jones with John Coltrane. Bryan Beninghove on saxophone, John Rousey on harmonica and Paul Maddigan on bass complete the band making a quintet capable of heavy blues intensity with a jazz approach in its flexibility. Additional horns round out the band on the more soul and r&b oriented tracks bringing the flavor of classic Stax recordings of the sixties. The album reflects Christopher's dedication to performing music from the heart with the emphasis on soul and groove. The musicians freely stretch out and solo, giving the listeners plenty to listen to and dance to time after time. We hope you enjoy this snapshot of the beginnings of Christopher James' musical journey.
