ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
1) It's the Beatbox
This piece was originally written for my students at Birney Elementary School in the Barry Farms neighborhood of Southeast, Washington, DC. It debuted nationally on the Kennedy Center stage with a 12-piece orchestra and classical arrangement, and was later featured on the Hip-Hop/Folk fusion album, Banjo to Beatbox; but this arrangement is very special. I arranged this version when given the humbling opportunity to open for the Godfather of Go-Go music, Chuck Brown, in the Music Center at Strathmore. The version honors my native-Washingtonian Go-Go roots and the amazing musical impact that the late Chuck Brown contributed to my city.

2) Children Album Gangsya
After recording the Banjo to Beatbox album with old-time/bluegrass musicians Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, we toured a plethora of schools and libraries winning a series of educational awards for the project, eventually garnering a GRAMMY nomination. Till this day I continue to educate kids by day and rock shows for adults by night, both by rapping, which isn’t supposed to be possible by contemporary rap standards. So, here’s a point of view that only I can speak from. :)

3) Wireless Signal
This piece documents the chain of events that inevitably transformed me from being a Wi-fi freeloader into a Wi-fi customer.

4) Freedom
Inspired by the late Richie Havens’ Woodstock improv, this is my interpretation of the piece as it relates to today’s problem with the education and income gap.

5) Late Again
Sometimes you have to admit to having a problem to move past that problem.
