Album Notes
Chronotope Project
Jeffrey Ericson Allen is a composer, cellist and electronic music recording artist. He has an eclectic background in classical, new acoustic and theatrical music production. His music has been heard on the nationally-syndicated "Music from the Hearts of Space." Chronotope Project represents his most recent expression as a creator of contemporary space music.
"Chronotope" refers to the unity of space and time, the intimate connection of the relative and the absolute. My intention is to create music that invites the listener to commune with this unified field of being, to paint soundscapes evoking introspection and connection, to awaken the subtle mind and open the heart.

Potential Classic!
It's already been said in other reviews how good this album is...and it's, without hesitation, THAT good! Indeed a 'potential ambient-classic' ! For me, somewhat surprising that the album was released on the (great and passionate!) Relaxed Machinery-label, because it's less dark and 'drony' than most of the releases from RM. I was so relieved that this stunning album is also released on CD!! (a stream of music as an 'album'?...I don't know..). The most wonderful thing about this album is that it has al kinds of sounds, feels and flows from all corners of the ambient-palette, and yet sounds só complete, and it really is a standout album in the ambient-field... Jeffrey Ericson Allen, who is Chronotope Project, has great ears, a musician-heart, and is so passionate about his art, this is what you hear within one minute after pushing 'play'...!! After a wonderful 'twinkling', 'swirling' first track (titletrack "Chrysalis"), that gives me a little Darshan Ambient-feel (love that!!) we get "L'Avenue Du Ciel", that starts with lovely drone-like sounds but then floats into a stunning piece of rhythmic space-like trip, with rainmakers, and tinkling bells and effected guitar-washes..awesome! Next up is "Trance-Missions", which has Erik Wøllo / Robert Rich-influences, with lovely ambient waves coming together in rhythmic patterns, this track will take you up in the sky!! This one is more than 25 minutes long (yessss!!) and during the last minutes you will gently land on your feet, after this awesome flight! Next up: "Reflecting Pool", where we seem to navigate through a swamp... It's a little darker, but not just drones!! There are stars also, reflected on the water... This is the time to really set your mind at ease, and let go... (again: stunning!!!). The last piece of art "Eternity's Sunrise" closes this breathtaking album. Again it's a trip in itself, starting at the edge of a mountain-cliff where eagles circle above the river valley... In the end you can feel the sunlight on your skin and the album drifts gently to a close... A few artists are mentioned here by me and others to make it clear what kind of album it is, but really, whether you like more lighter ambient-styles, drones and darker styles, I would recommend to all of you, and get the CD now before it's a classic and out of print...!!!

A true masterwork displaying giant potential and refined musicianship!!!
First of all, big thanks to John, one of the driving forces behind wonderful Relaxed Machinery community, who has pointed me to Chronotope Project few months ago. I was immediately impressed by this, in Eugene, Oregon, based project, stared by Jeffrey Ericson Allen, who is a truly gifted composer, cellist and ambient sound sculptor. "Chrysalis", a follow up to Chronotope Project's debut "Solar Winds" (self-released during May 2012) was originally released as download version at the beginning of October 2012, on Relaxed Machinery label, but the CDr edition came out one month later. The album kicks off with 13-minute track title "Chrysalis". Gently bubbling sounds are cleverly merged with warmly tinkling embellishments and other softly invading fragments, all surrounded by hauntingly celestial blankets. Gorgeously swirling, chiming and soaring with unmeasurable grace, shimmering beauty and balmy melodies. Yes, the mixture of sensitive tribals, ear-catching transitions and soothingly hypnotic zones is absolutely splendid, a true masterpiece igniting this luxurious journey!!! The next piece, “L’Avenue Du Ciel”, in English “Avenue Of The Sky”, unfolds with gorgeous abyssal drone, which is soon transformed into beautifully evocative panoramas, masterfully flavored by nostalgic bansuri flute cloudscapes and cinematic clarinet-like notes. Later on gentle tribal beats take the lead along with chill-out downtempos, glowing swirls and tranquil liquid sounds. Nostalgic woodwind wizardry again excels towards the end. Richly colorful and deeply visualizing composition, and precisely titled too!!! "Trance-Missions", a long-form number, clocking to 25 and half minutes, smoothly cascades through various, stunningly entertaining alleys, where sublimely poignant atmospheres are altering with gradually expanding and freshly joyous sequences. Always warmly heartening and thoroughly mesmerizing!!! "Reflecting Pool" is invaded by eerie cavernous atmozones, soon veering into spellbindingly reflective stillness virtuosically bridged with peaceful tinkles and heartwarming harp-like strings, all quietly enveloped by watery field recordings. This is utterly contemplative and wide-screen dreamscape, constantly filled with blissful listening experience. Sheer beauty and splendor!!! "Eternity’s Sunrise" melts angelic choir-like and gliding washes with yearning and ethereal crystalline strings, again expressively enriched by harmoniously alluring midtempo melodies. The final part traverses through calmer paths and fades away embraced by enchanting drifts and cheerfully poetic harp magic. A jaw-dropping finale!!! "Chrysalis" is a brilliant album, a true masterwork displaying giant potential and refined musicianship by its solo protagonist. Yes, to me, Chronotope Project is undoubtedly one of the revelations of 2012!!! And hugely ambitious addition to talented gang of Relaxed Machinery. And there is still a lot more to come, because Jeffrey is working on new material for this year's release, so I will eagerly keep an ear to this distinctive ambient terrain...
