Album Notes
Chuck Page is considered by many to be one of Canada,s best rock/blues Guitar players. He has recorded numerous CD,s and records and has toured Canada.Chuck has just released his new solo CD " Rockin It Out",10 tracks of new songs which focus on his exceptional guitar playing. This new CD has been nominated for 6 Canadian Juno awards in 2006..AWESOME !!! Check out his website . In Chucks own words: "It never ceases to amaze me, the
power of music. It brings you up, moves you, and adds such wonderful colour to our lives. When I was 12 years old, my parents bought me my first acoustic guitar. Struggling with
financial hardship, but intent on furthering my talent,
my mother bought my first electric guitar on time payments.
At the age of fourteen, I joined my first band, playing at
junior High Schools and Drop-In Centers. At sixteen, a
professional band came calling, and soon I toured Ontario
and played the bar circuit. Those were valuable and wonder-
ful experiences, inspiring me to form my own band. We toured
Quebec and the East Coast with good success, but, alas, as
with most bands, we parted ways after four years.
Back in Toronto, I decided to invest in some recording
equipment and instruments and draw on my experience of
recording several indie albums, which to this day receive
quite a bit of airplay worldwide.
Recording my own CD, playing all the instruments, singing
lead and back-up and then mixing and producing it, was
the most amazing and fun experience in my career so far.
Listening to my CD, I Hope you agree that the masters of
Rock and Blues, - Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray
Vaughan, Johnny Winter and Eric Clapton, - have tought me
well. Their art made me plug into the universe, inspiring
me to become the very best I can possibly be.
And for those of you trying to climb the stairway to
stardom: Follow your dreams. Never give up. Don't let any-
one dissuade you. The rewards are there for you to reap!
God Bless and see you soon!

Chuck Page - Rockin It Out

artist website
impulse buyToronto guitarist Chuck Page’s first solo album is a couple of years old now, but when we discover something underground/unsigned for the first time, we like to give it an overdue bit of attention.

After playing and touring in several Canadian bands since the age of 14, Chuck decided in 2002 it was time to have a go at recording a solo album, handling everything, including vocals, himself for the first time. With the help of drummer Mark Thomas Rockin It Out was recorded on Chuck’s own recording equipment over the course of the next couple of years, and saw independent release in 2005.

In the style of Chuck’s heroes Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter Chuck has produced six searing blues rockers overlaid with his own melodic, soulful vocals and seemingly non-stop, outstanding blues lead guitar, and four instrumentals, showcasing his guitar playing.

Opening with the fast-paced instrumental Catch Me starts the record out as it means to go on. Heavily distorted rhythm guitar distantly backing blistering soloing for four minutes. It’s a spiritual experience, believe you me. Another instrumental appears two tracks later in the form of Tribute To J.B. (J.B. presumably being Jeff Beck?), which is a slower-paced, but no less dynamic lead work-out. The last two appear at eight and ten respectively. The interestingly titled Frogleggs is a more laid-back, clean tone instrumental, focusing a lot more on the guitar melodies than the soloing, which Tic Tac is the slower, gentle closing partner of the opener, perfectly bookending the album.

The vocal songs include their fair share of lead guitar as well, many of them for their entire duration, in fact. The first vocal track is Broken Man, which is a mid-paced rocker with a blues groove, while Stoneboat is a slower, heavier rocker. It’s No Fault of My Own is the first out and out blues number, lyrically and stylistically. It’s the slowest song so far, with a typically bluesy drum beat and vocal melody. This is followed by On The Run, which has a Bruce Springsteen feel to it with distant, double-tracked vocals and more lead guitar and Springsteen has probably played in his whole career, and a perfect rendition of Bo Diddley’s Before You Accuse Me, the only cover on the album.

The final vocal track is the laid-back ballad I Am, with a clean, beautifully picked melody backed by occasional lead breaks. This is the only track where the lead backs the melody, instead of the other way around. Chuck’s vocals are deeper and slower in the verses, and become more passionate in the chorus, sounding like an early Billy Gibbons.

Nominated last year for six Juno Awards (Canadian music awards - mostly won by predictable ‘pop’ artists), Rockin It Out is a fine a blues rock workout as you’ll find. Not many guitarists make albums like this anymore, preferring to focus on experimenting with new sounds and technology and largely forgetting the craft that makes guitar playing such a wonderful area of music. Chuck hasn’t forgotten this, and is rightly recognised as one of Canada’s best players. Blues fans could do a lot worse than get themselves a taste of Chuck’s smooth vocals and raw leads.

"Rockin It Out" is het resultaat van één man: Chuck Page.

On first play Chucks soaring guitar riffs had me. This man has so much talent! He really needs to go to Austin or other muusic cities and get known. If he is as good a showman as he is a guitar player, he would really hit it as a player in the States. I WILL be buying more of this mans music!
