Album Notes
Chuck Pyle, while well-known nationally, is one of Colorado’s own local celebrities. He wrote the theme song for the PBS Spirit Of Colorado series, has played dozens of small towns throughout Colorado, for the Rural Arts Council and the Colorado Park & Recreation Association, as well as, sang with a 30-piece orchestra and introduced the Governor at the historic Cherry Creek celebration.

Admired as a humorist and innovative guitarist, he writes what’s best about Colorado, songs of forgetful cowboys, heroic highway patrolmen and brainstems gone ‘critical’. He’s performed for the Colorado Legislature, on Austin City Limits, at Bill Gates home and had his songs recorded by John Denver, Chris LeDoux & Jerry Jeff Walker.

The new CD, HIGHER GROUND - songs of colorado:

Chuck has returned to Boulder to record this record’s three new songs at Coupe Studios, with producer, John McVey. Gordon Burt supplies violin and viola. Colorado’s own celebrity photographer, John Fielder, has kindly contributed the genius of his right-time, right-place photography. []

In Chuck’s own words:

Everything about this album has to do with the gift of living in Colorado. The three new songs are, Little Town Tour, which I wrote to rural Coloradans, those who instinctively protect the land; and to their little towns, where they go to buy supplies and connect with neighbors. The WWI song, Moonlight On The Colorado, is about a yearning for love back home in Colorado, and John Denver's, Rocky Mountain High, is, of course, the new State Song.

The other songs are ones I've written and recorded over the years, some to beauty, others to the harshness that improves our vitality. Colorado’s the theme song for the PBS series, “Spirit Of Colorado”. Endless Sky’s to that longing for where the sky is the most significant landmark. Here Comes The Water’s about our most devastating flood. Our state inspires many forms of freedom: I wrote Mile High Feeling about escape from the city, Nighthorse and Keep ‘Er Steady, Cowgirl about the freedom of the Cowboy Way, and Grandpa’s Hands and Over the San Luis about different kinds of freedom altogether. Keep It Simple is to that period in Boulder’s history when12-step was everywhere and Dr. Andrea Von Steinhaus’ afternoon talk show was America’s first Radio Therapy Talk Show, and the single most popular radio show in Colorado history.

Higher Ground
We love this album ! It truly reflects the feel of Colorado and reminds us of the great John Denver and his love of the mountains. Thanks Chuck

Higher Ground
I actually first heard Chuck Pyle through the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band doing "Other Side of the Hill" many years ago now and was wonderfully surprised to encounter The Original in Chuck's own voice. This album is very Colorado, and appreciated because that's where I live. All his albums are good listening, for the words and the music. Way to go, Chuck. I especially like that you wrote a song for me (Laurie Ann) even though it's not really me. Just like hearing my name in tune! Thanks.

An Outstanding CD !
Living in Colorado, I truly enjoyed each and every song on this CD. If you love Colorado, you will enjoy this entire CD. In my opinion, the Colorado State Legislature selected the wrong song as the State song... it should have been Chuck Pyle's, "Colorado"!

Higher Ground
My wife and I have all the Chuck Pyle albums and this one is one of the best. Thanks Chuck and best wishes in the future.

Another necessity in the CD collection
This CD is from Colorado, and so am I. Although I live in New Mexico now, the songs still speak to me of the spaces and places and ways of life in the West. Contains some tried and true favorites, as well as some soul-illuminating new pieces to encourage a person to discover and truely follow their deepest desires- in a light-hearted, toe-tapping, joyful way.

I first heard the Zen Cowboy at my folk club and bought this album on tape, which I couldn't locate, so I bought the CD. It shows a more serious, sensitive side to his music, which complements his humorous songs. After listening to it a few more times I'm sending it to my son, Tommy, who lives near Vail, CO. The song "Night Horse" inspired me to write a devotional essay, "Let Jesus Be Your Night Horse", which I've emailed to Chuck.

Wonderful CD...The song Moonlight on the River Colorado has long been a favorite of mine, so I was delighted to hear it on this CD. Thanks, Chuck!

Brings Back Home
Having moved to Singapore from Boulder 9 years ago, Chuck Pyles's music brings back very fond memories. This collection in particular is great, because it so accurately reflects on what it means to live in Colorado. The CD has brought a small slice of Colorado to Singapore for me and I really appreciate it. Thank you Chuck. I wish you could perform in Singapore sometime.

Higher Ground - Sounds of Colorado
I was born and raised in CO, and now live in PA. I first heard Chuck's music when a cousin that now lives in GA played it for me. For a couple of trasplanted Coloradoans, his songs bring back some very special memories. Thank you Chuck Pyle from one homesick Colorado boy, and thank you CD BABY for making this talented artist's music available.
