ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
As 'Colorado' as the Rockies, singer/songwriter Chuck Pyle has won the unqualified respect & praise of peers and fans for 30 years. Referred to affectionately as the Zen Cowboy, Pyle wraps his infectiously hummable melodies with straight-from-the-saddle poetry, quoting bumper stickers, proverbs, world leaders and old cowboys at his shows. When reviewers first gave him the Zen Cowboy label, he decided to, as he says, "ride the horse in the direction it's going", and took his new nickname to heart. Shaving his head and blending upbeat spirituality with horse sense, Pyle began writing songs about forgetful cowboys, heroic highway patrolmen and brainstems gone 'critical'.

An accomplished songwriter, Pyle's songs have been recorded by John Denver, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Suzy Bogguss. He attained local fame when he wrote the theme-song -- thought by many to be the unofficial Colorado State Song -- for the PBS series, Spirit of Colorado; he was invited to sing that same song for the opening session of the 2005 Colorado State Legislature. His flair for words and melody has made him a favorite of Bill & Melinda Gates, who've had him play at their house. Among Country fans, he's probably best known for writing, "Cadillac Cowboy", recorded by the late Chris LeDoux, and "Jaded Lover," recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker.

Pyle's groundbreaking guitar playing enhances his performances. The sheer invention of his finger-style has distinguished him as a true American original, and earned him teaching invitations to The Puget Sound Guitar Workshop and The Swannanoa Gathering.

An Iowa native, Pyle made his way to the Front Range of Colorado in 1965 when, he says, 'Boulder was mostly gravel streets'. He travels the world, taking what is best about America with him, playing theaters, festivals, colleges, coffeehouses and house concerts.

Pyle has seven albums to his credit and just completed his eighth album, entitled Romancing the Moment. The new CD captures his considerable wit and charm in a way that only a live CD could. In addition to many fan favorites the album features five previously unreleased songs. Pyle is currently putting the finishing touches on a studio project scheduled for release in January.

Just like his concerts: wonderful songs, amazing playing, charming chatter.
This is the next best thing to one of Chuck Pyle's concerts. The songs--a few new ones, some old favorites--are loping, cowboy-influenced, jazzy, and intricately constructed and played. No melody is less than interesting, and most are truly wonderful. Once again for a live recording, Gordon Burt joins Chuck on violin and occasional vocals, contributing all the backup band this artist should ever employ. The set includes a lot of humor--both musical and in the between-song patter--which is also a characteristic of Chuck's concerts. Acoustic guitar aficionados will get a couple of years' worth of material to try and fail at, though the best Chuck Pyle guitar sound is still found on the "Step By Step" album. Overall, this is a great CD from an exceptional artist, and we must forgive him for the pink shirt, pink lettering, and pink flowers that decorate the sleeve and disc.

This guy is a poet!
I took a flyer on this CD. I had never heard it but Chuck Pyle sounded like an interesting artist. It blew me away. I think Endless Sky is the buried treasure on this CD. It is hard to find a better written song. As far the guitar playing, I am going to spend some time this weekend learning a few of these songs. They reach me.

I love all Chuck's CD's, but this one's the best!
Imagine how deprived I felt to have only discovered Chuck Pyle this past summer, even though he is practically in my own Colorado back yard! I attended the release party/concert for "Romancing the Moment", and I was hooked! This is the first CD of Chuck's I ever owned, and even though I've since collected them all, this one remains my favorite. I like it so much, in fact, that I ordered a passle of 'em from CD Baby to give for Christmas gifts. (Great, speedy service, by the way!) My favorite song on the CD is the beautiful "Moonglow Rising" but I've listened to them all, over and over, without growing tired of a single one. I HIGHLY recommend this CD.

Wonderful Music
Chuck Pyle is a national treasure let there be no doubt about it. This CD is in the vein of Camel Rock but offers a bit more depth. This concert was recorded with you in mind. You can hear the ringing of the strings and the true resonance of the violin. The most powerful song on this CD is Here Comes The Water from his Step By Step CD. If it does not send shivers down your spine, well buddy, you ain't human. Enjoy the CD, it will stay in your CD player for a long long time. Also, CD Baby sent this CD nearly overnight! Great service..thanks guys!

Warm, funny. Great singing, great playing.
Amazing how much music can come from a guitar and violin--perfectly complement each other. Chuck has an easy, no-sweat charm as a performer and his voice is mellow and musical, but also has that "talking to you" quality. Both are terrific musicians. A fine listen.
