Album Notes
"A New Beginning" is Chuck Wood's first release as a solo artist.
Recognized for his skills on various world percussion instruments such as the djembe and conga drums, this effort features Chuck playing percussion, but also performing on guitar and singing a lead vocal. The style of the record is based around world beat rhythms and features soprano saxophone, harmonica and quite a bit of electric guitar. There are also a few haunting vocal pieces. Chuck says: "While writing and preparing the songs for this record, I was listening to a lot of music from West Africa, including all the traditional drum music that I have loved for years, but also many electric guitar driven Afro-Pop artists from the early 1970's"

He decided to record these songs with his current band mates; percussionist Mary Moses and guitarist / percussionist Maria Haydon. Realizing a need for more sonic textures to keep the tracks varied and interesting, he reached out to some of the best musicians his home state of New Jersey has to offer. The additional line up includes: Neal Casal and Joe Cirotti - lead guitars, Arjun Bruggeman - ghatam drum, Mike Santos - harmonica, Jeff Hambright - soprano saxophone, Dave Hedden - percussion, Dan Fadel - percussion, Mike Esposito played electric lap steel guitar and singer Nadine LaFond balanced things out by contributing lead and backing vocals. All of the seven songs on the album are original compositions and all were written and arranged by Chuck except for two, which are co-writes with Neal Casal and Nadine LaFond. The music was recorded, mixed and produced by the internationally acclaimed organist / producer, John Ginty. Almost all of the recording was done at John's home studio known as " The Shark Tank." Additional recording and final mastering was done at the famed Showplace Studios by Ben Elliott.

Having recorded and toured the US with various projects since 2001 (fans might remember both Ghandharva and Dhamaru) Chuck felt the time was right to start writing and recording on his own. This endeavor took some time; writing enough material for a full length album and also the task of finding the right musicians to work with. Fortunately once producer John Ginty became involved with the project, things came together quite organically and now "A New Beginning" as a solo artist has begun.
