ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is the second album released by 'Church Bell Ringers', following on from their first release entitled 'Wedding Bells'. This new album contains 27 high quality recordings of Church Bell Ringing from English village Churches and includes examples of traditional change ringing, half muffled funeral bells and single bells tolling on church bells of various tones and pitches.

Track 1: Wedding Bells
Recorded at the Church of St. Mary's, Woughton on the Green, Buckinghamshire. The ringers can be heard performing St. Clement's College Bob Minor. This longer track is ideal to play before a wedding ceremony where real bells may be unavailable. These joyous and uplifting bells are light in tone and celebratory.

Track 2: Christmas Bells
Recorded at St. James's Church in Ashwick, Somerset. This recording is of Double Oxford Bob Minor and the sound of these light, cheerful bells pealing out is especially suitable to evoke the sound of Christmas morning.

Track 3: Church Bells Ringing on Christmas Morning
Another festive sounding peal of bells, recorded here at St. Mary the Virgin, Salford in Oxfordshire. Five happy sounding bells ring out the method of St. Peter's Doubles.

Track 4: Church Bells Ringing in the Key of A
Recorded at All Saints' Church in Tilsworth, Bedfordshire. The method rung here is St. Simon's Doubles with a tenor bell ringing behind as cover.

Track 5: Church Bells Pealing in the Key of G
Recorded at the Church of St. Columba in Collingtree, Northamptonshire. The ringers are performing Newington Doubles on the five bells.

Track 6: Rural Church Bells
The bells in this recording are from St. Mary Magdalene's Church in Duns Tew, Oxfordshire and the method rung is All Saints Place Doubles.

Track 7: Village Church Bells
This is a recording of Double Oxford Bob Minor being rung at St. Peter's Church in Freshford, Somerset.

Track 8. Church Bells in B flat major
Recorded at St. Denys's Church in Little Compton, Warwickshire, the ringers here are performing St. Simon's Doubles.

Track 9. Church Bells Pealing in F sharp
From the Church of St. Mary in Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire, this is a recording of Buxton Bob Minor, with all six bells involved in the method.

Track 10. Church Bells dating from 1680s
Another recording of St. Simon's Doubles rung on the five bells at Holy Cross Church in Milton Malsor, Northamptonshire.

Track 11. Church Bells Ringing in key of F sharp
Rung on the five bells at the village Church of St. Peter ad Vincula in South Newington, Oxfordshire, the ringers are appropriately ringing St. Peter's Doubles.

Track 12. Church Bells Ringing in Suffolk Village
Another doubles method, rung on the five bells at St. John the Baptist in Badingham, Suffolk. This is St. Martin's Doubles.

Track 13. Church Bells Pealing in Northamptonshire
A light and melodious ring of bells at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Weston by Welland, Northamptonshire, heard here ringing Royston Doubles which is a variation on Reverse Canterbury, rung with a Pinks Single in place of a Bob.

Track 14. Church Bells with Birdsong (Churchyard ambience)
This recording is delightfully enhanced by the sound of birds singing in the Churchyard outside St. Mary's Church in Grafton Regis, Northamptonshire where the ringers are performing St. Martin's Doubles on the five bells.

Track 15. Church Bells (majestic sounding)
Recorded at St. Aldhelm's Church in Doulting, Somerset. These heavy, majestic sounding bells are ringing out Single Court Bob Minor.

Track 16. ChuChurch Bell Sound (Deep Tone)
The five bells at All Saints' Church in Shillington, Bedfordshire are heard here ringing Winchendon Place Doubles.

Track 17. 15th Century Church Bells
These four ancient Church Bells cast in 1440 are being rung at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Fawsley, Northamptonshire. The method is Single Court Minimus.

Track 18. 17th Century Church Bells
The Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Mentmore, Buckinghamshire houses five bells cast in 1668 / 1669 which have never been re-tuned. They can be heard here ringing Reverse Canterbury Pleasure Place Doubles.

Track 19. Church Bells Pealing in Minor Key
An unusually tuned ring of bells here from the Church of St. Andrew in Bramfield, Suffolk. The bells are housed in a detached, round tower which is older than the rest of the Church. The ringers here are performing Plain Bob Doubles on the 5 bells.

Track 20. Church Bells Ringing in a Minor Key
A second example of bells tuned to a minor key. The five bells at St. Mary the Magdalene in Cottingham, Northamptonshire can be heard here ringing a method called Evening Star Place Doubles.

Track 21. Single Church Bell Tolling in pitch of D (Churchyard Ambience)
The heavy tenor bell of St Aldhelm's Church, Doulting, Somerset, is heard tolling. There is some background churchyard noise audible in this recording,

Track 22. Funeral Bell (half muffled single bell tolling in the pitch of G)
Here we can hear the tenor bell at All Saints' Church in Marsworth, Buckinghamshire - tolling mournfully. Half muffled for a funeral, this is an example of traditional funeral ringing for a burial, memorial or on Remembrance Sunday.

Track 23. Funeral Bells (half muffled method ringing)
Also from All Saints' Church in Marsworth, this is a recording of method ringing with half muffled bells. The ringers are performing 'All Saints Place Doubles'.

Track 24. Funeral Bells (half muffled call change ringing) [with sound of rain]
A third track from the bells at All Saints' Church in Marsworth, the ringers here are ringing call changes with half muffled bells, prior to a funeral. The noise of rain adds poignancy to the occasion.

Track 25. Funeral Bells (half muffled ringing rounds)
Half muffled rounds rung at All Saints' in Marsworth. These classic descending scales are a good example of mournful, sombre, funeral bells.

Track 26. 17th Century Funeral bells (half muffled ringing rounds)
Rung at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Mentmore, Bucks, these ancient bells are performing simple half muffled rounds. The bells retain their original tuning from 1668 / 1669 when they were cast.

Track 27. 17th Century Funeral Bells (half muffled method ringing)
Again these are the bells from St. Mary the Virgin at Mentmore in Buckinghamshire. They can be heard here ringing Winchendon Place Doubles, half muffled.
