Album Notes
Circus Mind has unleashed some funky sounds to keep the rockers stomping, the groovers hopping and the jammers jumping.

A modern day medicine show of midnight ravers, Circus Mind serves up a spicy gumbo of greasy New Orleans funk rock mixed with generous helpings of reggae roots and savory ska. Blended all together with mighty tasty tunes (with more hooks than a bait and tackle box) and simmered over a blaze of jam-fueled boogie, Circus Mind can't help but satisfy.

Circus Mind is:

Mark Rechler - Keyboards
Dave Berg - Guitars
George Hooks - Drums
Chris Crosby - Bass
Squantch - Trombone

Special guests fill the CD with their secret ingredients:
Cyril Neville - Neville Brothers, The Meters
Leo Nocentelli - The Meters
Earl Chinna Smith - Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley
Eric Krasno - Soulive
Neal Evans - Soulive
Rebirth Brass Band
Jen Durkin - Deep Banana Blackout, Bernie Worrell
Jason Crosby - Susan Tedeschi, Pozzy Ghuru
Chris Theberge - Groove Collective

There are a lot of sounds happening on this CD. There are the traditional rock instruments such as guitars, bass, keyboards and drums in addition to horns, the organ, the fiddle and turntables. The group describes their music as "N'awlins jungle spiked with Beatle funk mixed in with rootsy reggae and ska space splat." The New Orleans inspired groove is apparent throughout this collection but there are also traces of funk, boogie, gospel and the fore mentioned styles. Their songs have lots of hooks, improvisational jams and thoughtful lyrics. The CD as a whole has a festive feel and the musicianship is center stage. 'Ground Zero' which was written in 1998 starts out with a soulful groove complete with horns, the turntable and a funky beat. The hook line is catchy and the lyrics about flirting with disaster also work for 9/11. This songs is multifaceted and powerful. 'Organ Grinder' has a hard to describe sound that is riveting with vocal blends, horns and subtle turntable accents. As the song progresses there is a fast furious jam and than a bridge change to a slower tempo. It is a spectacle of sounds and wonders. Circus Mind has created an extravaganza of songs that are fun, daring and captivating!

Are you Kidding?!?!
I heard a track or two on Kazaa & tried to get this album on Amazon & in two different Borders...get some exposure & this will be nationwide!!!! The different styles that run through this album should appeal to anyone with musical taste. The songs differ enough so that there's no chance of boredom or overlistening...BEAUTIFUL!

swampy, funky, calls on the elements reminiscent of Little Feat and the Radiator
Circus Mind has a swampy, funky feeling reminiscent of Little Feat and the Radiators. Thir sound reeks of many elements of the New Orleans sound. Great guests-Leo Noncentellli of the Meters, Jen Durkin, formerly of Deep Banana Blackout, Eric Krasno and Earl "Chinna" Smith as well as a passle of horny horns throughout. Promising debut-Let's see what the future holds on their next effort.
