Album Notes
Citilites is a group of young musicians from the Washington, DC area with a funky and jazzy sound. Originally "Citilites" came together as a band in November 1994. Some of its members were classmates in school. In their spare time they would exchange musical ideas and that's when the "Lites" first came on! Although some of the faces have changed over the years, the sound and presence continues to be unsurpassable. Their style of music is unique--balancing smooth melodies over funky grooves. The members have gained musical experience by playing in a variety of bands from Gospel to Go-Go. The original music composed, as well as the arrangements put to covers, encompasses the full spectrum of this group's creativity and sound. Originally "Citilites" consisted of keyboards, bass, lead guitar and drums. Citilites now consists of the aforementioned instruments with the addition of sax, percussionist and a vocalist. Their debut album "Who's Up Next" showcases a smooth but funky blend of styles and creativity. This album features Alphonso Desselle on keyboards, Wayne Davis on bass guitar, Darren Banner on lead guitar, Derek "Redfootz" Freeman on drums, Orin "Gil" Gillian on saxophone, Rodney "Roc" Simpson on percussion, and Ralph Freeman as male vocalist.
