Album Notes
The 8-track stereo blares the “Immigrant Song.” The sun has burned off the last whispers of morning haze. A gleaming, cherry red '67 GTO roars past the cornfields and silos on a forgotten highway. The summer wind rushes through your hair, and you suddenly realize what it is to be free.
Scenes like these play over and again in one’s mind when listening to “You’re what you wish you are…,” the debut CD from Harlem, NY rock band Citizens Of Contrary Knowledge. The music is purely modern and original while evoking the passion, spirit, and volatility of the music of the Seventies. Modern Rock in a love affair with the greatest music ever made.
This band of 4 journeyman musicians has found indie success with their first release, having licensed music to Showtime's hit series "The Tudors" starring Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Nickelodeon's "Drake and Josh" and "Zoey 101", MTV’s Logo network, and College Sports Television. Their music has made a splash on college radio from Maine to Virginia, Michigan to Long Island, and the politically charged song “Wrong Side Of The World” is featured in the independent film “PBI: Paranormal Bureau of Investigation" from Alpha and Omega Films.
Citizens’ much anticipated second release is due out in the coming year.

Wow, what a fun CD.
I love it when I buy a CD that has more than 1 good song on it. I saw these guys at Wild Spirits in New York last month and then accidentally found this CD on CD baby yesterday. It's like Zep, STP and a little 70's style funk (Sly or Prince). Really cool songs. Nice job, guys.

I'll claim I was on vacation in an alternate dimension ....
because the fact that I did not know about these guys before this is too embarrassing to admit to. I keep replaying this disc to assure myself that I'm not imagining things, and I continuously arrive at the same conclusion. I'm not wrong. They are THAT GOOD!

This album "ROCKS" (no pun intended)
I absolutely love this CD! It rates comfortably amongst my all time Top 5. And, I am not alone there. I listen to all types of music (from Elvis Presley to The Doors to The Top 100 T.V. Themes Of All Time to Rascal Flatts - yes, just call me eclectic girl) on my I-Tunes on my work computer so I get heckled all day from my co-workers as they pass by my office (at least one person constantly does not like what is playing at that particular time) BUT that does not hold true with this CD. I have not heard ONE negative comment since the first time I started playing it, not even that I am overplaying it. Trust me, if you like music PERIOD (all kinds because I work with people ranging in age from 16 to 'should have retired 50 years ago' and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM enjoys this CD), do yourself a favor and make the purchase. You will be glad you did AND you will be doing a solid for the world because everyone loves C.O.C.K.!!!!!!!!!

CITIZENS OF CONTRARY KNOWLEDGE: You're what you wish you are
Love the CD! I have been listening to it since I got it: morning, noon and night. I love c.o.c.k!
Keep it up, thanks so much!

“New York City’s long and storied love affair with rock and roll has produced some of the world’s most sensational rock bands. Soon to be added to that illustrious list are Harlem’s own Citizens Of Contrary Knowledge. This group of four journeyman musicians are poised to burst onto the national scene with the release of their debut CD, “You’re what you wish you are…”- an eclectic amalgam of funk, rock, modern rock, and soul that is quickly garnering critical acclaim and popular appeal.” –Indie Radio Chattanooga

“Here's why it's worth going through the hundreds of CDs that come through your intrepid reviewer's metaphorical transom. Sometimes you come across a band, like Citizens of Contrary Knowledge, that can do it all: play, sing, write, and on a more mysterious level, simply connect.” –Blogcritics Magazine

“New York City based Citizens Of Contrary Knowledge has a sense of melody that rivals that of U2, and a sense for keen hooks that sweep you away into their songs.” –Wildy’s World

“This is a band of musicians...that became evident early on. Each song comes at you from a different direction. "Spread Your Wings" hearkens back to Bowie as he came out of the Ziggy days. "Brand New Dance" puts you right in an Earth Wind and Fire groove and then you catch a hit of Bowie during his 'funk' period. But by the end of the song it is dueling guitars...Chameleons - that is what this band is.” –Bond’s Big Leather Couch

Just when you thought it was safe to turn off your radio...
When struggling to find great music, it gets tiresome turning over stone after stone, it is a godsend to find something like the Citizen's CD, "You're what you think you are". Not only do they have something to say that is worth lisetening to, but they do it while making great music. I find myself putting it back into the CD changer again and again.

They have taken some truly diverse influences, rolled them around in some organic substances and grown them into a collection of songs that is worth every penny and every second of listening time. Buy it and enjoy it.

dare I say Roots Rock with a side of SENSUAL?
Good Gawd, your lava lamps and over-dripped candles will never be better used than when lying around the homestead in your silky lil jammies listenin' to the Citizens' perspective on luvin' and losin' and movin' to the ultimate life-inspired groove. "Real Love" goes extremely well with a bottle of Red. And I will never admit that I sang "Brand New Dance" into my hairbrush over and over 'til the neighbors told me to shut the hell up and "by the way, what's that disc??" The production totally compliments the songs and the vibe. Highly Recommended.
