ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This beautifully crafted soundtrack tells the sonic journey of a mysterious agent on a night-long rescue mission across 16th century London. Each track has a mood and theme describing a place on that journey and is a unique fusion of electronica with live play, working medieval themes effortlessly into a contemporary, cerebral, dreamy and unforgettable trip back in time.

PRIORY
It’s December 1545 and night cloaks the city. A curfew bell tolls in time to the haunting refrain of Salve Regina which resonates from Ludgate, the home of a mysterious order of Dominican Brothers.

RUNNING THEME
This gripping, intense percussive race of drum and harpsichord riding over bass riffs switches the tempo up to mark the beginning of the adventure.

JAIL
The Jail opens with a futuristic twist to medieval jail clinks of chains and gravelly metal with new age synth arpeggios creating a building and moving blocks, cells perhaps as it builds.

THEATRE
A magical interlude led by a vibraphone, reminiscent of the balalaika in Zhivago or a Russian ballet has you tiptoe through exotic lands, stage sets and painted backdrops of the Theatre.

BEDLAM
Climb onto the merry-go-round and let this Bedlam theme carry you round and round on a strange, fairground waltz written to conjure childhood memories in a dreamlike surreal.

INN
Picture the soothing firelight, the warm glow and intimacy that only a teardrop-shaped lute can offer here, at the coaching inn. The horses are settling into the stable downstairs and with a storm raging outside the delicate melody woven into the sleepy dark tones of a cello is Tudor bliss in a nutshell.

BREWERY
The Brewery has two parts: an enchanted hop forest, described by the slow, measured opening melody on harpsichord - which slips a gear soon after with snare drum building to a sleezy, 60’s Persuaders-style paced and epic theme.

TOWER OF LONDON CHAPEL
Following the laid-back reprieve of the Brewery, the profundity of the ethereal choir in the Chapel reins you back in to the theme with an angelic Kyrie Eleison - prayer for mercy fills you with a longing and hope as the story turns a corner into it’s final chapter.

ROYAL MINT
The string-driven Brewery theme is switched down to this melancholy french horn version of the melody giving a sense of trudging home from defeat.

CROWN JEWELS
This dainty, restrained gem draws you into the chamber of jewels with staccato plucked strings and the mysterious tone of the vibraphone - which is nothing if not captivating and mysterious, promising to build on and on but will leave you wanting. Wanting and enchanted.

CRADLE
Opening with the satisfying crunch of footsteps in snow, this piece marks the finale in the adventure, sweeping all the themes - choral and percussive to a euphoric climax underpinned by an edgy bass, reminding you of the drama gone before and the melodies which will resonate with you for a long time.

MAIN THEME
The Tudor theme.
