Tasteful, except when Nipsy asks Christine where her penis is.
It's always a revelation that there was any sexual enlightenment back in the 1950's. But that was the era of Christine Jorgensen, Playboy magazine & the Kinsey Reports. Christine's interview with Nipsy Russell seems a bit quaint today (they never explicitly described how sex is surgically altered). Still, Christine (much to my surprise) defended homosexuals, even as she makes it clear she does not see herself as gay. The interview is amusing yet tasteful, except when Nipsy asks Christine if the "parts" were preserved. I heard that Christine once walked out of an interview when Dick Cavett asked her about her "wives"- I'll bet she was tempted to do the same with Nipsy.

This should be heard by the entire world again.

Technically superb rendering of an exchange between masters of the interview for
Technically this CD is marvelous. The clarity leads you to believe it is being broadcast live.

The interview is pursued by the host with incisive questions carefully orchestrated and respectfully posed. He seems to ask all the questions that anyone might have wished to ask the interviewee.

The responses of Miss Jorgensen are enlightened, intelligent, well balanced, and absolutely sincere. Her manner is one of dignified self-possession echoed in a delightful tone of voice. She reveals herself to be a stellar human being.

Such an outstanding recorded interview helps one accept less regrettably that there were no others.

Christine Jorgensen
It is wonderful that this rare album, along with a rare single!, is once again made available. Christine Jorgensen was a sensation in the 1950s and she had a very tasteful and successful nightclub act. Jorgensen was the perfect first transsexual to set such a positive example for the Transgendered community. This recording is still as relevant today as it was 51 years ago. Christine Jorgensen was a very insightful lady who carried herself with dignity, intelligence, and humour. This CD is representative of how Miss Jorgensen handled herself in numerous interviews and she has had my respect and full admiration when I had the opportunity to see her on talk shows. She was a woman, a lady, and a remarkable human being who was mercilessly subjected to public scrutiny regarding her gender. She lectured at many universities and gave her support to the transgendered communities by being the guest of honour. This album is one that should be played in any class which teaches about gender roles. Jorgensen's answers to the questions are well-thought out and there is no doubt that here was a woman who had made a transition across the gender lines but had full-possession of her identity. I salute the late great Miss Christine Jorgensen!
