Sleeve Notes:

“Sei il mio Nomi” is the latest release in Simon Roberts' (Classicalbanksy) exploration of his own unique style and genre, Operatic Pop.

“Sei il mio Nomi” (which translates from the Italian as “You’re My Nomi”) was conceived as an ‘artistic love song’ to the iconic performer Klaus Nomi - another opera singer, just like Simon - whose life and career were affected by HIV. And while Klaus tragically died of complications caused by AIDS in 1983, Simon managed to survive his diagnosis with full-blown AIDS in 2005.

It evokes a magical moment, when Simon and Klaus are briefly able to freeze time, find each other across the years, and sing one last poignant duet, a testament to their admiration for one another.

The title, and several lines in the lyrics, are in Italian, because Simon wanted to use ‘the traditional language of Opera’ to capture his audience’s ear and imagination, and make this song really stand apart.

Also, Simon wanted a stellar line-up of guest-Artists, so turned to Counter-tenor Andrew Watts, whose beautiful voice and interpretation of “Sei il mio Nomi” rival even Klaus’ own superb singing. Along with Andrew Keeping of (Guitar) and top session trumpeter Oliver Preece (Flügelhorn) all were fellow students together with Simon at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the late 80s. And it’s a sign of the enduring strength of their friendship - even after all these years - that everyone was so enthusiastic and willing to get involved with this project.

However, the musical ‘magic’ that happens on this track, would not have been possible, without the key involvement of someone very special - both to Klaus Nomi, and to Simon Roberts.

This final version that you’re hearing as you read these notes, was produced by none other than the LEGENDARY Man Parrish!

Man Parrish was Klaus Nomi’s close friend and Music Producer, and today he also coaches and mentors Simon’s music production activities. Manny did what all truly great Music Producers do - he took Simon’s excellent composition, and made it into a mini masterpiece.

Every Penny Goes to Support HIV Children’s Charities

“Sei il mio Nomi” is being released on the 1st December 2018, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the very first World AIDS Day, in 1988. In 2017, World Health Organisation figures put the number of people who have died as a result of AIDS at between 28.9 and 41.5 million, worldwide - making it one of the biggest global public health issues in recorded history.

When the subject of donating proceeds from the sale of the single to charity came up, it was unanimously decided - because both Andrews and Oliver have families - to choose charities that support children living with HIV.

The challenges that Simon’s HIV status has raised are tough enough for anyone to deal with. For children, many born with HIV so knowing no other way of life, and many in deprived areas of the world where medication and treatment is not always readily available, the struggle to simply live happy and fulfilled lives is enormous.

And so, EVERY PENNY that this single generates will go to a number of HIV charities world-wide, (not just in the UK) who support HIV-positive children.

In this way, everyone involved in the making of this very special single, hopes that through our efforts, we’ve been able to make some young lives a little happier - not just for this Christmas, but for long into the future.

Much love, and on behalf of us all - and Klaus - many thanks for downloading “Sei il mio Nomi.”
