Album Notes
Who are Clint & Laila and what are they about? Clint and Laila started performing and writing songs together 8 years ago. Forging an eclectic blend of guitar driven rock, blues, funk and pop, Clint & Laila recorded and released their independent debut CD "Consider This!" in September of 2009. "This is a very real and honest recording of the music we wrote over the time we were performing together", says Clint. "We weren't going for the typical over the top production found with most of today's popular music. Somewhere along the lines record labels quit making records that were a good representation of what a particular band sounded like. Instead their approach has become more of a statement of how good their production techniques can make any band (good or bad) sound. Unfortunately a lot of today's bands can't live up to this big production live and leave their fans scratching their heads as they leave their shows wondering where the band on the CD was. We wanted to create something real that we could take to another level when performing it live!"

Clint, a native of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and a lifetime student and teacher of the guitar has earned his living playing and teaching the guitar since the age of 14 (teaching came a little later). Playing in just about every major style of music, it is easy to see why the music he writes reflects so many different styles rolled into one coherent sound! Clint's early influences were rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Kiss and Alice Cooper. Later Clint became interested in guitarists like Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford and a list way too long to include everyone! Basically if someone has something interesting to say on the guitar, Clint is interested in hearing it! "The most important thing that I want to do is to communicate to people through the guitar", says Clint. "There are things you can convey to people with music that you could never do with words. There's a special feeling when you see someone in the audience standing by the front of the stage and you can tell by their body language that they "get it"! I've had that feeling many times myself as a spectator."

Laila, a native of Ornes, Norway was always interested in music and the arts in general, but started to become serious about pursuing them while attending the College of Engineering in Narvik, Norway. Clint and Laila met while Laila was in Florida doing her thesis for her Master's Degree. Laila's early influences were R&B greats such as Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Later she became interested in pop and rock singers Annie Lennox, Bonnie Raitt and Pat Benatar. However, there are a lot of contemporary artist, Kelly Klarkson, Joss Stone and Colbie Caillat to name a few that she likes as well.

An interesting fact about the lyrics that Laila writes is that they all come from personal experience. Some songwriters write in a very fictitious style. Laila prefers to write about her real life experiences and the people who have touched her. For instance "Garden of Memories" is a song Laila wrote in memory of her mother, Marit Johnson. The song reflects on the loneliness Laila felt when her mother passed away, but also reflects on the love and fond memories which will always live in her heart, mind, body and soul. Every song on "Consider This!" tells a story. It's actually a little dangerous to be a friend or family member of Laila Johnson. Eventually you will have a song written about you. In addition to writing meaningful lyrics and melodies, Laila also plays a mean blues harp which can be heard on the songs "Home" and "Enough is Enough". Another influence from her early R&B days.

Another fact that people may find interesting is that Clint wrote all of the instrumentation for the guitar, bass and drums on "Consider This!", with the bass and drums being performed by studio musicians. In addition to this Clint also handled the mixing of the CD as well. This was a first for Clint and a real learning experience. "All in all the CD came out pretty good I think", says Clint. "We wanted to make a very live and honest sounding CD. I think we accomplished that! Now we just want to get out and perform this music live for as many people as possible!"

Once the CD was complete Clint & Laila enlisted the talents of drummer, Mark Palermo, and Bassist, Jon Warcholak, to round out the live band. In addition to being seasoned and experienced musicians Mark and Jon are also very well versed and capable of playing in many different styles, which makes them a perfect fit for Clint & Laila's music! Clint and Laila look forward to featuring them on their next CD.
