Album Notes
Coastal Sage habitually bends the rules, blurs the lines, and stretches musical boundaries. As evidenced in their 2015 Self recorded and produced album "Say Love", a single track could contain elements of old school funk, hip hop, Latin groove, and classic rock, while other tracks are a more focused blend of roots and California style reggae. Throughout the EP you can hear diverse influences such as Sublime, The Meters, Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani. Coastal Sage is uniquely able to incorporate new ideas while paying homage to the great artists who came before them. Defined by a strong rhythmic foundation, thought provoking lyrics, blistering lead guitar virtuosity, and crisp vocal harmonies. It's impossible not to be captivated and amazed by the talent of this group from Santa Cruz, California. Look for the band's shows throughout California as they promote their new album and continue to build their rapidly growing fan base.

Metro Santa Cruz
Paul Davis
Coastal Sage is poised to become the next big Santa Cruz reggae fusion band. Blending elastic dub lines with searing blues guitar might at first appear a dodgy proposition, but the band pulls it off impressively. Unlike other new-model California reggae bands, Coastal Sage is refreshingly traditionalist in its approach, while still sounding wholly contemporary. Like the scrub that grows up and down our Northern California coast and gives Coastal Sage its name, the band is the sort of amalgamation of classic rock and traditional reggae that is wholly unique to this region.

Coastal Sage began recording in 2009 with songs "Burn One Down," "Dont be Stressed", and "Gimmie a Draw". In the first year alone, "Burn One Down" was played on MySpace over 20,000 times while Coastal Sage started to make a name for themselves. The band has opened shows for many big names in reggae like the Itals, Wailing Souls, The Melodians, Horace Andy, Cornell Cambell, Eek a Mouse, Collie Buddz, Anthony B, Michael Rose, Don Carlos, Junior Reid, President Brown, Roots Underground, Abya Yala, Laguna Pai, and many more.
