Album Notes
Coba's debut CD features a rich selection of singers and of songs by Sebastián Cruz exploring new approaches to traditional Colombian rhythms. The music on this CD offers a very personal and fresh take on a community's ancient and profound legacy.
Sebastian Cruz Started performing and composing at age 16 in Colombia with various rock bands playing in local venues and city festivals. Since moving to New York in 1997, Sebastián performs regularly with traditional and contemporary Colombian music ensembles including "La Cumbiamba Eneyé," "Pablo Mayor's Folklore Urbano" -appearing on their CD- with "Clásicos del despecho en la voz de Lucía Pulido," and with "Coba" which he leads. He is also musical director for Lucía Pulido's Colombian music project.
Sebastian holds a BFA from the City College of New York where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. As a composer he has won an ASCAP award in 2002 for the composition of a song for theatre, and composes for other mediums such as theatre, film, and documentary.
