ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
We didn’t start singing and playing guitar while still in the womb, we haven’t been hailed as the new Dylan’s and we aren’t American Idol friendly. We’re a couple of empty-nester baby-boomer back-porch songwriters turned street performers turned full-time touring musicians. We don’t chase radio hits, we don’t write for others, we don’t wear fish bowls on our heads. We write songs, we perform them, we laugh as much as possible. We travel with a small beagle and a large cappuccino maker.

Our graphics designer asked us if we wanted a CD cover that would please our audience, or please us. We said us. He seemed distraught. We understand. We love him anyway.

Our radio promoter warned us that putting electric guitar and saxophone on the new CD would alienate some folk radio hosts. We felt that each song should be produced how we heard it when we wrote it. He was delighted. We love him.

Worst case for us is we die having written a lot of songs we love without anyone having heard them. We don’t think that would have bothered Woody Guthrie, and it doesn’t worry us.

We aren't strangers to the music scene. We've both won songwriting awards, Coco has been on Conan O'Brien twice as a backup singer for the wonderful Rebecca Pidgeon. She hit both Billboard and the Country charts with a bullet for "New England Song". She was in the original, Boston cast of "Hair".

Lafe worked for record companies for many years, released a studio album of 14 original songs in 2005 (including the "Folk Song of the Year" (Prayin' for Rain) (with Grammy nominated producer Mark Greenberg) and we've done what most musicians desire: we've found a way to support ourselves with music income, at least for the six months of the year we live in Boston & Vermont. The fun surprise is that we've done it playing on the street and at farmer's markets, mostly by selling pounds of CDs. Now we are loving adding house concerts, clubs, and anywhere our audience can sit down.
We have a lot of music friends in Vermont, and now in the Boston area. We hope to find many more in San Diego and the SouthWest, and then, who knows? Kansas? The world? May we live so long, and meet you on the way.

A Music Snob

A True Gem
Cafe Loco is lush and lovely with rich harmonies, and a gorgeous production. Each song is a jewel and just as individual. You can tell these two know each other well; their voices blend and dance together beautifully like only very special pairings do.
I actually like all the songs but there are a few that really resonate for me - Here With Me is a song that I think every woman can relate to. The wistful yearning feels genuine, without the melodrama a lot of songs fall prey to. Cambridge Underground too has a similar sentiment and the cello adds that perfect air of melancholy.
Let's Get Away, Introduce Myself to You and Big Bad Daddy all make me smile and laugh- the lyrics are brilliant as is the delivery.
This CD defies categorization as its much more than one genre can contain and that's a good thing.
I love the various instrumentation on this CD as it truly adds depth and richness to the songs without ever overpowering them. There was a deft touch with everything on Cafe Loco. From the first rate sound to the great looking CD package, this duo means business.
Lafe and Coco are also consummate performers. Having been lucky enough to catch them live I was thrilled at their ability to capture the verve of the recording and enjoyed the intimacy of their exchange; between each other and the audience.
So to sum it up- BUY THIS CD! And catch them live - they're wonderful.

Cafe Loco
Definately Lafe and Coco's best work. The clever lyrics tell pertenant stories combined with chord progressions, fingerpickin' and great vocals and harmonys make this a truely professional and enjoyable album that you want to listen to over and over again. This album is truly inspired (By cappuccino?). I've known Lafe since high school and we played together a few times. If he thought I was better than him back then, he can forget that now. Not even close! If Yoda could hear the album he would say "Far, you will go. With you, the force is."

I was there for many of the late nights and street performances that created this album - it's emotional impact for me is something intensely personal. However, I truly believe that anyone can connect to these songs, which is a testament to Lafe and Coco's ability as songwriters and musicians. The CD is moving, beautiful, and funny all at once, and the superior execution allows the music to shine through. Well done :)

I've had the CD less than 2 weeks and it's just about worn out!! It's like a good book you can't put down except that in this case you can play it over & over and then the next thing you know you're humming the tunes at work all day!!
Cambridge Underground is a favorite as well as Three Line Poem Hunter's Goodbye Snow Reservations Billboards ok then, most of the CD is my favorite.

I once knew Lafe well. I still follow his musical process and progress, because it is, well, GOOD! I have played this album countless times for myself, of course, and also many, many times for friends. I don't count as a reviewer, because I am an unabashedly biased supporter. However the WORST response I haved received from my friends is "play it again, it is nice". OK. That's the worst. So, I suggest you listen, and listen carefully with your entire being. This is high caliber songwriting. With incredible instrumentation and singing by both Lafe and Coco. Look for the layers of meaning, they are there! This album will grab you and hold you. And the next time, you will find something profound you missed. All the while, having much pleasure in the experience.

Folk isn't usually my genre of choice, but I make a major exception for this album. Song writing of this quality is hard to come by. Add to that a beautifully produced CD with a eclectic mix of musical instruments and styles. There has to be at least one song on this album for everyone. If you're not laughing, crying, and/or tapping your foot then you're missing out. Don't miss out on this one.
