Album Notes
Formed in 2014, the members of Colour Tongues began by piecing together their musical ideas and over the next year developed a collaborative approach to their craft, including elements of jazz, blues, big band, contemporary rock and synth-wave.

Colour Tongues are known for their upbeat choruses, technical power rhythms, and blending of different instrumental patterns that work alongside high-range vocals.

Colour Tongues has been likened to influential bands such as Minus the bear, Foals, Vampire Weekend and Tame Impala. The band is renowned for their melodic and rhythmic dynamics through exploring dualistic, technical guitar harmonies matched with complex song structures of varying tempos and time signatures; all while maintaining a smooth flow and danceable vibe. Overlaid by the well-sustained tenor of James Challis, their indie-tech sound blends the complexities of math rock with the accessibility of indie.

Lead singer James Challis is the former frontman and lyricist for the bands Teleprompter, and Desert Ghost, with the latter’s tracks Count Them and being featured on Australia's radio program Triple J unearthed and also on Bay FM 100.3. James also had the privilege of making the Best of IMP's 100 Songs Project 2011.

David Taylor was the powerhouse drummer of South Korea’s “Dirt Nap”, as well as Toronto based hip-hop rock 4-piece “Committed to Rhyme”, featured in the 2014 documentary “The SCENE: An Exploration of Music in Toronto” alongside Canadian favourites Bif Naked and Tokyo Police Club. David met James at a party in April 2017, and joined the band shortly thereafter.

Daniel Ré, bassist and bilingual vocalist, has had his work featured on Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver radio stations for both his Anglophone and francophone work. Daniel is a rich addition to the Vancouver music scene.

Graeme Meekison, guitarist since age 6, is the most recent addition to Colour Tongues. He has a long, self-driven history with music performance and composition, joining his first band, 'Wild Alive', at age 13.
