ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Contra-Band of War introduces three mid-western artists: Rain Angeni, Kaliber, and Loren D, who have come together to pour poetic elixir on the wounded with a powerful and unconventional mesh of Deep Soul, Spoken Word, Hip-Hop Soul Fusion. Our goal is to leave socially - conscious - footprints on the hearts and minds of all who listen.

"Contraband of War" was the status term applied to an escaped slave during the Civil War who fled north and was not returned to slavery, as was the law at that time (Fugitive Slave Act). Though the Union Army legally enlisted Africans in America after July 17, 1862, many fled to the north to achieve freedom and fight against their southern oppressors. These “Contrabands” were housed in self-made camps, the largest of which was called “Slabtown” on the now Hampton University Campus. This is where true communities were born and education took place for the first time. This album is dedicated to “Contrabands of War” – our forefathers!

Members of Contra-Band of War have performed and recorded: w/ Anthony David, Raheem DeVaughn, Jaguar Wright, Jon Bibbs, En Vogue, Oleta Adams, Peabo Bryson, John Secada, Roy Ayers, Bilal, Chicago Symphony Cntr, performed in France, London, Hawaii, Mexico and abroad.
