Album Notes
Up from a dusty horizon comes a new CD "Country Rockin' Rebels," disc two in a multiple CD cycle by San Diego singer-songwriter Tristan Luhrs and producer/guitarist Michael Head. After the limited edition release of their first album together "Sketches of San Diego," the duo created the new CD and a full live band, in the image of a new album/CD concept. A country, rock, and blues band called Country Rockin' Rebels. The Rebels mix old school lyrical charm with dueling hot rod guitars and a incomparable, rock solid rhythm section. They are a musical journey tearing through the history of country, blues and rock ‘n roll mixing classic covers with inspired, endearing original material.

–Cabeza Records, 2011

“Built around Head’s music and that of primary composer Tristan Luhrs, the Country Rockin’ Rebels, who will appear at the OB Farmers Market on July 20, have made a name for themselves over the last five years as a duo, but more recently have expanded, adding Mark Eppler (slide guitar), “Willy Boy” Dixon (bass) and Steve Tomahawk (drums) to the mix. They’re a country band, with the prerequisite influences like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, but they are also a group fond of the blues, from its beginnings all the way up to the White Stripes.”— Bart Mendoza,

“What’s really interesting about Luhrs’ accomplishment on this album is that he has found a way to create a unified statement via a number of disparate musical genres. His imagery is intense, not always pretty, but his points are well-made. He has a lot of ability as a musician and vocalist, and he possesses the artistic sensibility to make his risky fusions compelling.”— Written by Mike Alvarez, San Diego Troubadour

“Tristan Luhrs creates "new west dirty blues"

“For all you folks who live life with music running through your brain all the time like me... this band's tunes will greet you when you wake. Because, it got down into your musical soul the night before. Yeah- it's one of THOSE~ the ones you just can't shake. .... this CD has it all. How often do you run into music that combines all these vibes- along with intelligent, sometimes irreverent [a great thing!], often sly and always original , wickedly wry lyrics that sneak up on your consciousness?? Each time I listen to this CD, I pick up yet ONE more little nuance I missed before- Combine Luhrs' remarkable voice with the deadly talents of the outstandingly beautiful "guitar-art" and drums that take your breath away.... these guys have the makings of a band that can -and I do hope- make it all the way. Carpe Diem, guys..... and keep on living the dream...”Carol Busse - Carol B. University of Texas, Arlington
