ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I didn't start piano lessons until the age of twenty seven. I started playing guitar at the age of eleven. The knowledge of guitar chords, rhythm, and singing along as I strummed, all played a part in helping learn the piano. But, the piano is a huge beast to try and master compared to learning a few chords, then advancing to bar chords and playing lead on the guitar. When you start piano as an adult, the progress is slow. Instead of fingers flying across the keys and making beautiful music, they feel like they are stuck in concrete. Slowly over the years, the technical difficulties faded and because I practiced scales, arpegios, chord inversions, and classical music three or four hours a day for over twenty five years I got to a point where I could become one with the music like I had done on the guitar. There were some who tried to discourage me from learning the piano. I heard everything from my fingers weren't long enough, to stories about famous piano players that it was obvious I would never be as good as, and the point they were trying to make is that if you couldn't be better than them, and have bragging rights, why bother doing it? Such is life. People who try and discourage before you start, when you start, and all along the way. I figured out I just needed to do what I knew God wanted me to do and let some of the negative influence fall on deaf ears. There will always be someone better. That's not the point. In fact, music is not all about technique anyway. So much of it is about expression. The years I spent practicing, even on Christmas day, Thanksgiving day, New Years day - I barely missed a day without spending at the least one hour practicing, and usually three or four working on the hard stuff, and not just playing for fun. Now I can create. That's what I'm doing now. Now I'm serving, using my talents that have been sharpened. I wouldn't be doing that to the degree I am if I hadn't put in the effort to learn - and really, I am a singer first. I could have just left it there and been only singing all these years. But I knew there was more for me to learn so I went after it. It was and is my passion. It's what God created me for. I don't have to worry about the other guy that has been taking lessons since he was two years old. I wish him well, and he has my respect, but it's a joy serving the Lord in Christian music and although I have had great teachers, and others who gave me sound advice and helped me on the pathway, He is the one I listen to for direction. He's never let me down yet. I encourage you to seek His will for your life, follow His leading, and finish the course. And by the way, enjoy the journey, wherever it may lead you.
