Album Notes
Jim Jacobi draws influences from punk, blues, garage, rockabilly, noise rock, rhythm and blues and hip hop in edgy, aggressive, and culturally critical assertive music. Not one for "gentle" or "simple" music, his tastes lean toward music that fulfills certain wants and desires he may have either consciously or subconsciously. Many psychological studies have drawn similarities between individuals who enjoy classical music, and those who enjoy metal/hard rock - all of this research standing true with him. He is reserved and introverted yet extremely intelligent and observant - taking in the environment like a sponge. He has very (and we mean VERY) little patience for ignorance, stupidity, and people who take advantage of the less-fortunate. Above all else, he values controlling his own life and choices - and detests anyone else attempting to make them for him. Independence is key!
Jacobi had been recording music during the early and mid 1970’s using several cassette recorders dubbing back and forth. When he acquired a Teac 4 channel recorder he began recording music with Herb Hill on drums and he playing rhythm guitar. Jacobi added vocals/lead guitar/keyboards and bass later to make the 1978 release “Victims of the Medial”. Not about “fake” news but about corporate music trying to undermine the artistic process of other musicians. The next year it was the 45 “Police State/Set program” From 1980 to 2003 many different bands and recordings ensued all using the name Crap Detectors with the exception of band title Jojakimbi band which he insists was still Crap Detectors in disguise. He had continued to record and release music with guests using the same concept that he began in 1977. He has done 10 plus studio releases as well as many basement recordings

If only
While listening to “IF ONLY YOU HAD BEEN PAYING ATTENTION, I WAS PAYING ATTENTION to some very recurring themes in much of THE CRAP DETECTORS music. I’ve actually been a pretty big fan of this band for a lot of years, so when I read an article about the CRAP DETECTORS in PUNK GLOBE magazine, I had to buy it! One thing about the CRAP DETECTORS--though they have gone through a lot of different personnel over the years, the message remains the same--partly because the messenger has always been Jim Jacobi fearlessly, steerlessly leading the ship with original mixing of crazy, (I’ll have what he’s having…) guitars, horns, rhythms, lyrics, the whole kitch’in sink!
Jim Jacobi’s lyrics, structure of songs is unpredictable, uncompromising and without a doubt UN-P.C.!!! My favorite song on this cd is called “PREHISTORIC MEAT”. I don’t know at all what it means, it JUST SOUNDS COOL!
The layers of synthesized sounds that all work in a warped wrapped way make this cd a musical burrito stuffed to perfection and smothered with a sauce of organically grown sounds mixed to fulfill the appetites of music aficionados of ALL KINDS OF MUSIC.
The Crap Detectors have been a VERY underrated band since the “PUNK ERA”—I’m glad to see that after all these years—(it’s the 40th Anniversary CD!!) that Jim Jacobi and the Crap Detectors are STILL KICKING ASS and taking names later! I hope they NEVER QUIT serving up some of the best damned garage music I’ve EVER HEARD! Jim Jacobi and the Crap Detectors were WOKE before WOKE WAS WOKE! I’ll always be a fan! I’m glad to support this band-glad I bought the cd!!!
