ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Crucifer Biography 2016

Crucifer was formed in the garages of Stafford Va. in 1990. Crucifer is a three piece death metal trio featuring Jeff Riddle on vocals and drums, Brian Ronquest on guitars and Stevie Snyder on bass. What makes Crucifer unique is that they are only a three piece band and the drummer handles all the vocal duties. The band was formed from a high school friendship and in February of 1990 Crucifer was released upon the world at their first show opening for Believer. Right away people were attracted to Crucifers simplicity and raw sound. The band recorded their first Demo “Beyond the Realms” in Fredericksburg Va. and started selling and trading them through the metal underground. Very quickly Crucifer gained the respect of the metal community and was noticed by Wild Rags Records from California. In 1991 Crucifer went back into the studio to record what is arguably their most heavy, fast and brutal release “Festival of Death.” With the help of Wild Rags Records, Crucifer reached a much larger fan base across the country and globe. Crucifer played many live shows during this period and made the Colonial Theater in Fredericksburg Va. their official stomping ground. They played with many signed and underground bands further establishing themselves as a top notch death metal machine.

1993 would be a monumental year for the band and put them on the map of extreme metal music. Crucifer recorded and released its most popular and best selling album, “Pictures of Heaven”. Wild  Rags Records promoted and pushed the band hard including sending them to the 1993 Milwaukee Metal Fest opening for bands like Testament, Body Count, King Diamond, Clutch, Flotsam and Jetsam and many others. “Pictures of Heaven” would go on to be one of the best selling Wild Rags releases. There would never be a higher point for the band as they started to gain some interest from larger labels.

As the members of Cruicfer got older and the responsibilities of life that come along with it started to take over, the band found itself drifting apart. In 1994 the band managed to put out a three song EP entitled “Seperation” for Wild Rags Records. The three songs were very well written and a bit more commercial sounding in nature. Just as the EP title suggests, Crucifer went its separate ways for a couple years. During this time songs were still being written and the result was eleven songs that were recorded in Fredericksburg Va . 1996. Out of the eleven songs recorded, unfinished demo versions of six of the songs made it onto the final Wild Rags Release “The World Dies”. On November 1st 1997, Crucifer would play their final show at Colonial Theater in Fredericksburg Va.

In 2016 Crucifer was contacted by Dark Blasphemies Records in Spain about releasing their entire catalog on a special two disc anthology. The result was “Carrier of the Cross” released September 1st 2016. The response was overwhelming and showed the band there was still a lot of interest in Crucifers  music. Crucifer updated all of its websites, released new merchandise and has reconnected with its fan base old and new. Crucifers plan is to take the eleven songs written in 1996 and re-record, polish and release them as a full length album in 2018.
