Album Notes
Cumbia Machin is an Electro-Cumbia band that combines the use of live electronics and live percussion on stage, something in between a Dj and a Live Band you could say.

Musical weapons: Zendrum, Kaoss Pad, Loop Pedal, Subwoofer!!!, Congas, Timbales.
Musical mission: Cumbia Invasion on the dancefloor

The project began in the spring of 2010 out of the barrios of South San Diego. A the Barrio either you were a Chollo, Punkrocker, or Homeless to be out in the streets at night kinda place. So while building character and learning life lessons in the streets of San Diego, the fellas also learned about music too. Popular Styles that have been an influence are 80's Soul, Classical, Drumline and Marching band, Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, Latin, Jazz, Reggae, Drum n Bass, Dubstep and more.

Response to the band has been very consistent, "what the heck is that instrument you are playing????" "Zendrum is a midi controller that is connected to a Roland Fantom brain, looping and FX processors are the Digitech and Kaoss Pad"......."oh. ok cool you guys ROCK!"

The Zendrum is not a typical instrument and it is used by Joaquin Hernandez to continue playing music due to the disabling effects of Focal Dystonia in the right hand. Focal Dystonia is a genetic nervous disorder that surfaced after 18 years of playing the drums with bands such as Castle Park HS Drumline, Chicken Farm, B*Side Players, Sol Power, Agua Dulce, and now Cumbia Machin. There is no known cure for Focal Dystonia at this moment so a doctor told Jack do something or try and figure out another way to play. That reinvention and new inspiration led to the heavy programming of sequencers and with midi machines to create music. This also led to Joaquin writing all of the music of the band not just the drumming.

This is not a one man band though, in order to give it that extra missing something live percussion is always added to the performances. Holding it down is Paul Lopez for the current upcoming tours and Luis Cuenca of The B*Side Players joins in when not touring as well. Pete Ortega has also added horn arrangements to many Cumbia Machin tracks.

Cumbia Machin has provided opening stage support for:
Bomba Estereo, Botellita De Jerez, Mexican Institute Of Sound, Mexican Dubwisser, La Santa Cecillia, Very Be Careful, and Sonidero Travesura
