Album Notes
Young Medicine are First Nations Artists that perform & promote Contemporary and Traditional Forms of Music, Dance and Art while sending a positive message of, “Be your own Person, and Follow your own Dreams”. The artists are Curt Young and Jamie Medicine Crane; Curt comes from the Salteaux-Cree from Gordon’s and Cowessess First Nations in Saskatchewan and Jamie is Blackfoot from Kainai & Piikani Nations in Alberta; Young Medicine work with people of all ages but primarily they work with the youth, about 75% of the work they do. Young Medicine are 2011 World Championship of Performing Arts: Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists, and 2014 Aboriginal People's choice Music award winners for Best Blues Album. They have had the opportunity to travel to many places and many stages in many parts of the world such as: Canada, United States, Peru, Africa and China. With the most recent to the UN-CSW in New York, and will be going to Bangkok, Thailand in fall 2015. They have had the honor of performing in front of crowds up to 40,000+ people at the Calgary Stampede and many more stages around the globe. They are First Nations Performers and use traditional/ contemporary style of music and dance to share their life experiences, and culture, while talking about topics such as bullying, women’s rights, empowerment, equality, youth leadership, Role Modeling, Believing in You, self-esteem, living in two worlds and many more. The performance can be anywhere from 1 minute to an hour and it consists of many musical genres.; In the production Curt sings, plays guitar, cedar flute, harmonica and hand drum. Jamie uses contemporary and Traditional styles of Native fancy dancing, sings, plays flute, hand drum and rattle. The entertainment opens with an honor song and prayer using the hand drum, flute and expressive dance. Apart of Young Medicines mission is to promote up and coming artists that are in the arts; (Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Modeling, Fashion/Makeup/hair designers) in events such as Rock’N the Nations; in which they plan the events. Curt and Jamie hope to bring “Young Medicine” to the people of all cultures and of all ages to encourage unity and harmony amongst all!
