ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Dominik Rueegg is the frontman for the "band" Cuthead. A combo that focuses on his guitar playing and writing, Dominik's music takes on many facets and nuances, none of which completely define what I hear on this recording. He seems to be comfortable in many settings, whether they be chill music, spacey fusion, ballads, acid jazz, blues rock, etc. His sense for variety makes Cuthead the kind of music that makes full length listens more than tolerable, in fact, the music is very alluring thanks to his keen sense for backdrop and sizzling guitar playing.

He lends many nods to the past, and has refined many of the tasteful players that have come before him. I can detect echoes of Eric Johnson, nuances of Errorhead, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the tastefulness of Jeff Beck throughout this cd. Never do I hear showy discourses of note flurries or zany shred affairs, as each song has a defined melody to pair with the well constructed songcrafting. Again, it's refreshing to hear so much diversity on a cd of instrumental guitar music, and the tasteful playing certainly doesn't hurt either.

Dominik is a player that is perfectly comfortable with his chops, allowing each song to focus on the many aspects of his preferences, he playful creates those familiar melodies and toys with tones and techniques to enhance the personal touch he lends to his music. Love to hear more! Check him out at the links!

Smoking hot

Great slide work and catchy riff right off the bat. Great backing production with lots of little sound presentations. Incredible guitar work. I'm having a hard time writing this cause the music is demanding full attention. I will definately give this a few more listens since there is no way to catch everything on the 1st pass.

I'm not worthy!

I'm never quite sure how to comment on songs like this. I mean, seriously, could musicians be any better? If they can I'm not sure I want to hear it because it will just make me feel bad and using my guitar for firewood. Phenomenal playing all around!

Clever, tasteful guitar music
I discovered Cuthead on myspace and hurried over to CD Baby to pick up a copy of this album after hearing 'Apollo' as a download. The rest of the CD was no disappointment. The playing is beautifully executed, the composition is excellent and each track is delicately recorded by the artist himself. Cuthead gets some great tones from his Strats and doesn't go overboard with effects. The mandolin is a really unique aspect of his style, especially the solo on the otherwise Vai-like 'Apollo'. The track 'Tones' has elemnets of Pat Metheny's acoustic output whereas 'Raw' sounds like SRV or Hendrix discovering a whole new chord book. Buy it, it'll do you good.

Great playing
This is a fantastic release. The playing is great and the tunes are very catchy. This guy can play and doesn't waste time just noodling around the fretboard. Discover this artist and find all of his releases (3) as they are all great.
