Don't be a chicken shit! Listen to this album and be entertained!
I call my voice "contralto."
I've been singing since I was three-years-old in church, choirs, choruses, and yes, I was the Karoake Queen for many years. I picked up a lot of experience singing different styles and genres of songs this way. My biggest infuences have been Cher, Martina McBride, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Carly Simon, to name a few.
The Chicken Shit Bingo song happened while in Michigan on vacation. I went to a fourth of July carnival in Munising, MI and saw this game they were playing and instantly the words of the song came to mind, complete with video! Of course they now call it Chicken Poop Bingo, but no one can be a chicken poop--you'd be a chicken shit.
Long Distance Lover is for my friend Joey who was my karoake singing buddy for many years. He now sings and plays harmonica for a band called "Yellow" in California. He wrote a song about me called "Bad-Haired Woman," which the band performs regularly.
My son used to call my karoake singing "crapioky," because he wanted me to develop my own songs--so I finally did.
I sent the song "I Got Nuthin' " down to Paramount in Nashville, TN, and they sent back a letter giving me the director's award for the song--they wanted me to come down there and record it. I performed it with a band on 9-1-08 and two days later I was nearly killed in a car accident. I vowed to record that song and Chicken Shit Bingo" before I died.
I went in for guitar and piano lessons in 2017 so I could perform the songs with accompaniment and met Mare Edstrom-Fox, who in turn introduced me to her husband, Kenn Fox. When she heard my songs, she thought I could learn the ins and outs of how to record them.
I began recording the songs and after the two songs were completed I contracted laryngitis. Two months I was down with that! No sooner had I recovered than the doctors found bladder cancer, which I had removed. After a year of being clear of that, I went back to the studio and finished the rest of the album. In all it took two years to complete (without the health interruptions, it would have been nine months).
I have a lot more songs inside of me, and plan to continue recording with Kenn Fox at Anam Studios in Watertown, WI.
