Album Notes
Altar is the first CD i made, it was released in 1996. It has not been for sale since 1999 but now it is finally available here on cdbaby.com as a download. On some of the tracks you'll hear shamanic singing, on other tracks you'll hear gentle African drumming that invites you to move and dance. The idea behind Altar is that it offers a 'shamanic work-out' which includes greeting the directions, prayer, choosing a focus, a short trance journey, time to move after the journey to express and explore what was seen/experienced during the trance using movement, grounding, a prayer to give thanks and a greeting to directions to round it up again. The use of African drums is a bit unusual for me, in my shamanic training programs I never use this type of drums. For the CD however it seemed a good idea, because I wanted to invite the people using the CD to dance.
The production of Altar was fun - we built a large altar in the studio with representatives of the animals that gave their names to the tracks on the directions/in between directions, and recorded the in/on this large wheel. Peter de Haan, Jennifer Hinton, Peter Bruys and Berto Bastiaens were part of the team.
