Riding Out

by Dakota Hurley

A long time coming, my debut single Riding Out is about a relationship which didn't work out according to plan. There was a girl who I was really into, took her on a couple dates, then she wouldn't give me the time of day. I decided it was no big deal.

Album Notes
Dakota Hurley was born in Johnson City, TN and has always had a passion for music. Growing up in church Dakota starting singing and developing an ear for music at quite a young age. At seven years old, his family moved to Florida and Dakota started playing guitar. Dakota grew in his musical abilities playing in his church band, then high school band, then a few blues band projects. He graduated from Seminole High School in 2013, and shortly after joined the United States Air Force, serving for two years in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Air Force brought Dakota many challenges and hard times, along with good times and great friends, ultimately leading to him discovering his true passion--music. When he found out he had the opportunity to separate, Dakota launched his country music career and has been going strong ever since.

As a musician Dakota is well versed in both style and instrumentation. As an instrumentalist and a vocalist, he's played these styles: rock, blues, jazz, gospel, traditional country, funk, soul, bluegrass, and R&B. You can hear elements of these musical styles in Dakota's original music. He plays electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, organ, and is learning pedal steel guitar (one of his favorites).

Aside from musicianship, Dakota strongly believes in entrepreneurship when it comes to music. With the fleeting success of record labels, and even the dropping number of commercial studios, there's never been a more opportune time to be an independent artist. In this case, when the name Dakota Hurley gets slapped on the front of his work, it's rightful. From promotion, to booking, to writing/composing/arranging, to recording/mixing the music, Dakota does it all.

Dakota is an audio engineer, trained in both studio and live sound environments. Trained at F.I.R.S.T. Institute in Orlando, FL, he's had the opportunity to work with many other artists and hone his craft--although the main drive to go to school came from his desire to be independent and not need to rely on commercial studios to produce original music.

There are two things Dakota says about his music...

1.) "My music is like I'm driving a loaded-down freight train, barreling down the tracks, and the only way it will stop is when it reaches the top of music. You can either get on, help, and enjoy the destination, or get out of my way."

2.) "I'm not the best. Don't claim to be, don't need to be. I don't have all the fancy frills and big money that the labels do... but I'm honest. I write and compose my own music. Every song I've ever written is about a real experience, so every word, every note represents real, true emotion. You couldn't offer me enough money in the world to give that up.
