Album Notes
“The Danaan”:

“The Danaan” was released Spring Equinox 2009. Almost 5 years in the making, through 3 cities, and with much love, “The Danaan” was delivered. This is truly a remarkable CD, sensual, compelling, and unlike anything in today’s music arena.
The music has been described as powerful and other-worldly. It takes the listener on a journey, inspiring and erotic in nature.
All music was written by world-class percussionist, Hans Janowitz, and sung by Shannon Day.
Shannon has been compared to the likes of Annie Lennox, Elizabeth Frasier, Tori Amos, and Lisa Gerrard. All songs on “The Danaan” were divined in the moment, and created as a vessel for inspiration.

Hans was trained in classical piano by his professional pianist grandfather (also named Hans Janowitz) starting at the age of six. He has also studied Irish guitar with fellow Portlander Dan Compton, and has trained in Middle-Eastern percussion, strings, woodwinds and various other instruments. Past musical projects include the bands “Lovenotes & Lithium” and “Charlux”, and he was a core musician for the Tribal Bellydance troupe Gypsy Caravan and is featured on their CD “Quest”. Hans also directs a Creative Commons cooperative musical project called The Aught Naughts. For more information on Hans and his current projects, please visit his official website:

Shannon Day sang her first CD at the age of 17 on Nu SHooz Grammy nominated “I Can’t Wait”. She is also the lead vocalist on “Illumine – Enter the Light” and featured vocalist on “Purekane – Lounge Sessions”. She has been a background vocalist and commercial artist on hundreds of projects. Shannon, is also the composer of “Chakra Meditation” series, and has studied sound/vibrational healing with the likes of Jonathan Goldman and James D’Angelo. She is the daughter of world-renowned opera singer, Janet Day, and sister to pop 80’s star Valerie Day.

This is what people say about “The Danaan”:

“OK, I am seriously impressed. This CD contains some of the most intelligent writing I have listened to in quite some time. The Danaan brings great Celtic spice forward into the 21st Century and Shannon Day’s voice leaves Enya in the dust….
The delivery is so sensual that I need a cold shower after about three cuts, four max. “
Jim Hand – Commercial Broker, Macadam Forbes

“Sounds fantastic! There is a wonderful "melody" for lack of a better term that Shannon Day carries.

I know a rock star.”

Tor Clausen – World Renowned Photographer

“This is Third Age Celtic T•Lantean, the real deal. So far my heavy favorites are Folkroar and, of course, Epic. The harmonies in that one could reactivate the standing stones.”

Robert Cannon – Co-creator of the DrySmoke Series, Graphic Artist

History of “The Danaan”:

The Danaan were a magical race, and were the faery
folk of Ireland. They were the shape-shifters; spirits of the wood, river, sea, and mountains.
The essence of Danaan science and knowledge stems from music – Atlantean in nature, they controlled and manipulated sound waves – thus recorded in legend as the "music of the spheres."
We hope you find this music as a gift. All tracks were “divined”, in the moment. No tracks were written with forethought, but channeled from a place beyond. The Danaan compels the “music of the spheres” to speak to you and bring you closer to your heart, vitality, joy, and magnitude of existence. For all there is a Season…
