Album Notes
(Milwaukee, WI — Nov. 2012) “Trust me, I’m way out of my lane with this project,” rapper SPEAK Easy said in a recent interview (Part I, Part II) about the EP he and Uni.Fi Records labelmate, Dana Coppafeel, scheduled for release early 2013. “It’s pretty cool, I’m loving it.”
The project — which is generating buzz since first mention, the first single/video “One of These Kids”, is dropping in November — brings two of Uni.Fi’s hardest‐working, yet dissimilar, emcees together for a head‐nodding seven‐track ride that is as much about musicality and instrumentation as it is about lyricism and style.
The unusual partnership has been a boundary‐pusher for both rappers; and the especially‐collaborative process, that engaged national and local artists, musicians and producers, has added a new dimension to their sound as well.
“There’s a lot of people taking part in what we’re doing,” Coppa said in the same interview. “It’s about getting a different ear. Let’s get somebody talented to come in the studio and have them listen to it and give their two cents. And if we like their two cents, have them author that.”
Collaborators include: Toronto producer Frank Dukes (who’s worked with artists like 50 Cent, Danny Brown and Charles Bradley); one of Minneapolis’ hottest new emcees, MaLLy; acclaimed Milwaukee rappers Prophetic and Gerald Walker; CAMEone — winner of the 2012 Miltown Beat Down; rising rapper and former jazz musician, Klassik; sought‐after local producers The White Russian and Da Ricanstrukta; and Milwaukee hip‐hop duo Streetz‐n‐Young
“In reality it’s not just Uni.Fi project anymore, and I think that symbolizes what Uni.Fi embodies,” SPEAK said.
The EP, entitled “Uni.Fi Records Presents...Dana Coppafeel and SPEAK Easy,” will be available early 2013, and for now look forward to the first, and second single which will drop in December.
