Album Notes
The new recording New York Family from drummer/composer Dan Aran is a celebration of friends and music.
The title is a tag given to the musicians on this recording by their leader.
Aran shares a combination of original compositions alongside arrangements from Rodgers and Hammerstein,
Horace Silver, Mal Waldron, Jimmy Van Heusen and others from his “New York Family.”
The recording completed in spring of 2018 expresses a bond
between this group of musicians who have assisted each other in coming to New York City to place their name on
the musical map.
About the Recording: By Dan Aran
The music on this recording represents what I have been undertaking in New York for the past decade. I have
been fortunate to be a part of serval different musical sectors; the jazz scene, the latin music scene, and the world
music scene. On New York Family, I wanted two points to come through the effort. 1.To play with a band I
actually work with a lot, and know very well, and 2. for it to be versatile, and feature all I do, or at least most of
it. This band of good friends and musicians that I trust wholeheartedly, feels like family, it is my New York Family.
