Album Notes
Pride and Arrogance Notes

Music is a metaphor for life. Through melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, dynamics and space - there is a way to communicate feeling and mood more directly than with just words.

The members of the Dan Beck Band create a conversation - with each member contributing in a supportive and leading way. Song arrangements vary according to what we are experiencing and feeling at the time. The aim of the group is to keep each piece feeling fresh while still maintaining the integrity of the music. The tracks on this album capture that energy. My observation is that listening skills and taste are something we continue to develop. People become good at doing something by being critical of their own work - so first and foremost we must please ourselves.

From a lyrical standpoint each song has a slightly different but complementary message. What we dislike in others is almost always what we dislike in ourselves. We all could stand to be more present with ourselves and each other. A wonderful and peaceful world is much closer and more possible than we generally realize. Each of us has a core unchanging quality and our choices and how we go about life is of less importance. Life is supposed to be fun. And you don’t have to agree to still appreciate the music or each other for that matter.

Playing music with this group of musicians is a great joy - we hope the listener can experience the feeling as well ;-)
