Song Notes:

Asked and Answered: I wrote this in early 2018. The first phrase sounded like a question to me, and the second phrase sounded like the answer. So there was my title, "Asked and Answered".

Mr. B.G.: I wrote this in July, 2018 while vacationing in Colorado. It reminded me of the style of Benny Golson's compositions. He has long been a favorite jazz composer of mine ("I Remember Clifford", "Whisper Not", "Killer Joe", "Stablemates", etc.) so this is my small tribute to him, Mr. Benny Golson.

Sequoia: About 15 years ago I wrote and then played a song at a concert for the Alumni of the Westminster Choir College Piano Pedagogy Program (which I graduated from). The song had no title but somebody at the concert suggested Sequoia as the title. I then proceeded to totally forget about the song for years and I had never written it down, so it was lost forever. I wrote a song in 2018 and when it came time to name it I thought why not make good use of that title that now had no music to go with it. I still wonder what the original Sequoia sounded like.

Berlin Swing: In 1990 I spent two weeks in Berlin and experienced the jazz scene in the city. Upon returning I wrote this song based on that experience.

Dreams of Dustin: In 2003 my wife Ginny was expecting our first child. We knew it was a boy and would be named Dustin. I kept having dreams with baby Dustin in them. I wrote this song in response to those dreams.

Runaround Bop: This song runs around through chord progressions in many different keys. My wife Ginny has a song she wrote called Runaround Blues about the busyness of our lives, so I got the idea for my title from her title.

Voices of Angels: In 2018 I accompanied the Triad Arts Ensemble Choir in some concerts. After hearing the choir and enjoying how music can be made by the human voice I wrote this song dedicated to the choir.

Rocky Mountain Samba: My son Nathan asked that I write a song with some energy and this is what I came up with. It was written on vacation in Colorado, so that is where the title came from.

Waltz for Sarah: This was written in 1993 after the birth of my niece Sarah.

Answered and Asked
I discovered Dan Crisci with his Christmas album a number of years ago that was a breath of fresh air, and it has become a staple in my house. I found his latest CD, Answered and Asked, to be ever so stylish, sophisticated and sexy, made more surprising because it is entirely made of original compositions by Mr. Crisci. What I like most is its stunning movement from first cut to last that has an gentleness about it which keeps me wanting to listen and discover again and again. I give it five stars..
