Album Notes
Hailing from Austin, Texas, Danger*Cakes is an all-female, old school Rock 'N' Roll band that has a sound that is both wonderfully familiar yet wildly different. They swing like Cab Calloway and rock like Wanda Jackson. Throw in the soul of Sam Cooke with the firebrand energy of the Clash and you have music that will have you bopping till you drop! Their signature brand of “Punk-infused R&B” has made them major players in the world famous Austin music scene. Now, you can hear what all the fuss is about! Their first full-length album, "Dessert First" was recorded live and it will definitely knock your socks off! Full of energy, life, and most of all fun, fun, fun, Danger*Cakes is here to kick some serious Brass!

Monster Kid

Danger*Cakes is wicked fun.
Upright bass, smokey vocals, crunchy guitar. It's an addictive combo if you grew up on both punk rock and oldies radio. Danger*Cakes is "rockabilly" but it skews more Chuck Berry than Janis Martin. But let that turn you off. This girls really do rock and this CD is a blast. My favorite is the doo-wop song about the zombie boyfriend.

Met Maven

Good to the last bite.
I've been a big fan of this band since I caught them at Headhunters three Halloweens ago. They have a sort of upbeat,pop-punk sound combined with psychobilly imagery and a early rock 'n' roll feel. While this sort of genre mixing makes it kind of hard to define which "scene" owns this band, they really bring it. Needless to say, they're a lot of fun and I'm glad they're going legit. I hope they do a longer CD next time.

Jane Borden

Psychobilly with horns!
It's nice to see someone doing something a little different. Every band sounds like the Cramps or Demented Are Go! Well, this band proves psycho can swing! Go girls go!

Danger*Cakes is no band of Misfits!
Despite such b-movie subject matter as zombies, pot-smoking teens, and tattooed freaks, Danger*Cakes is no goth rock act. This CD leans heavily on the roots of rock music. Jazz, country, and delta-blues are all served in equal portions. I would say Danger*Cakes drags these genres kicking and screaming into the 21st century, except these gals seem to have stopped in the 1990's. Newer influences like pop-punk and ska are thrown into the witches brew! Surprisingly the end result is quite good. What you have here is the unlikely "marriage" between Big Mama Thornton and No Doubt. If that concept doesn't excite you, then this is not the band for you. But if it jump starts your broomstick, then go man go!
