In Between - EP

by Dan Godlin

Putting romance on the back burner, this album revolves around the quarter life crisis and a generation struggling with the dichotomy between actual reality and the “follow your heart” fairytale it was raised to believe. Honest, catchy and current.

Album Notes
Houston born, Boston raised Dan Godlin spent high school jumping back and forth between two lives: that of a rough and tough football captain, and that of a sensitive, reclusive musician. Once his college years arrived, Dan chose to follow music, despite being scouted by Ivy League schools for two consecutive record-breaking seasons. While bouncing around campuses across the country, including a brief stint at UCLA and final semesters at NYU, Godlin recorded his first album, Loving on Empty. The full debut album of 13 self-written songs revolves around the uncertainty of young love and the rollercoaster of a good-guy’s mix of frustration and compassion. In March 2011, his debut single “My Hurricane” broke the Top 200 Hot Adult Contemporary Charts. The following year his upbeat, sing-along single “Did She Look” hit number 3 on Channel One’s iHeart Radio’s New!, and Dan was named Channel One’s Artist of the Month as well as nominated for 2012 Artist of the Year.

Godlin’s follow-up EP, In Between, puts romance on the back burner. Co-written and produced by Jim McGorman and Robb Vallier* in late 2012, Dan refers to the collection of five songs as a “concept album” revolving around the quarter life crisis and a generation struggling with the dichotomy between actual reality and the “follow your heart” fairytale it was raised to believe. The sound and lyrics on this EP reveal a more mature Godlin, an earnest artist described in a Bloginity.com profile as:

…a 22 year old dreamer who croons like Jason Mraz, hugs like a best friend and embodies a magnetic, good-guy charm reminiscent of a male version of Taylor Swift…

The red-headed musician, now based in NYC, takes his pop/rock cues from artists like Matchbox Twenty, the Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows and The Fray, to name a few. His songs are high-energy and emotional, an honest take on the confusion of life from a young man full of hope and good intentions.

*Note: Jim McGorman is a multi-instrumentalist and producer whose past songwriting collaborations have included Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus and Shakira among a long list of others. Robb Vallier is a songwriter/producer whose past projects have included producing the GRAMMY Award nominated album for Wailing Souls, the music for the GRAMMY/Tony award winning musical “Spamalot” and multiple pop/rock records as well as R&B projects with artists including R. Kelly and Jon B.

If You Think Buying This EP Is A Gamble, Play The "Wild Card" and Win
Twenty-three year old Dan Godlin has released his second CD and looks at a different aspect of life from his first album. While "Loving on Empty" looked at the relationship side of life, "In Between" looks at life's path and the struggles you make. It's what Godlin himself calls his "mid-twenties life crisis" phase.

Spending over three months in Los Angeles working with a variety of songwriters and writing/recording a ton of new music, this 5-song EP was produced by Jim McGorman and Robb Vallier in LA. The new EP has a completely different feel to the debut album, with instrumentation that is infectious and lyrics that speak to a whole generation.

* Where We Belong - Looks at and discusses the journeys of life and the decisions to make along the way. Hottest song to date - very radio sounding. High potential to be the launching pad for a high ranking chartable hit.

* In Between - Has sort of a Sweedish-electro sounding beat. Self exploration from the inside, sort of like speaking in third person. Shows the importance of being positive and giving your all while waiting for that big break to happen.

* Long Way Home - Very much a background song to that perfect date movie or Broadway play - Considering life is a journey, a look at the journey from the recognizable starting point until now. Also has an undercurrent love story.

* Things I'll Never Know - This song is about having to learn life lesson's the hard way. The overall message is how that can make you stronger and it is important not to be afraid to make mistakes, as it's a huge way to learn and grow as a person.

* Wild Card - Life and Love is a game of sorts - have a positive strategy but don't be afraid to invest yourself - it's the only way to get the reward. This is going to be a great song for spending time with someone else in front of a fire on a cold evening or laying out under the stars on a blanket. The prefect snuggle-up song for when you are with the one you love.

* Hardly Wait (Bonus Track) - (bonus for digital download only) - Here we have a song that transcends. You can easily see how this song is about love and wanting to take time to build the perfect relationship. It is just as easily about a mother wanting to spend time with her daughter. Two best friends who haven't seen each other in years. A busy family needing to get their priorities straight and put the family before everything else. It successfully describes all of that and more.

Godlin's huge social media presence has helped set him up for success and created a devoted following amongst his fans. It is refreshing to see someone care about those who enjoy the music just as much as making the music itself.

If you haven't experienced Dan Godlin, you must buy this EP. It's a great place to start.
