Album Notes
Walking from the Clouds
By Singer/Songwriter Daniel Casavant
Inspired by the Celebration of a Mother’s Life!

"Terrific intellectual property. Good on ya - great song."
Ronnie King, The Stampeders – recipient of the Socan Lifetime Achievement Award

"Daniel's voice is engaging and distinctive and I love it! Daniel's love of life comes to life in this song - an uplifting ode to hope. It would do very well in the gospel/Christian genre."
Elissa Lansdell, Former host of CMT (Country Music Television) Canada

Walking from the Clouds is the latest single from singer/songwriter Daniel Casavant. The song was originally written as a folk song by Kathryn Kates, in honour of her mother Claire’s 75th birthday. The lyrics won a grand prize from Cadbury’s Mother’s Day Contest.

This past September, Kathryn asked Daniel to enhance the melody and perform it for her mom. For inspiration, Daniel was scheduled to meet the Kates matriarch, but sadly four days before, she passed away. To commemorate what would have been Claire’s 82nd birthday, Daniel surprised Kathryn with an upbeat adult contemporary, country influenced version of Walking from the Clouds. Kathryn truly feels Daniel captured her mother’s spirit through his uplifting melody and joyous vocals. And Kathryn is not alone, there’s already been buzz.

Country music may not be the first thing you think of coming from these two city folks, Montreal born Daniel and Kathryn, who hails from Toronto, but combined it’s in their DNA. Daniel is a decedent of the family who founded Casavant Frères—renowned manufacturers of church organs. Kathryn’s late great uncle, Morris Schumiatcher created Calgary’s famous White Hat, cowboy hats.

About Daniel Casavant

Daniel has composed music since taking up the acoustic guitar at eight. By 15, Daniel began playing the piano. Stylistically influenced by American musicians, yet barely out of his teens, Daniel had a great desire to discover the roots of the music he loved. So, he hitchhiked to New Orleans and Nashville seeking out jam sessions with local talents, while absorbing all the knowledge these veteran musicians had to share. In 2009, Daniel recorded Nine At The Time, his first studio album. His rich, haunting voice met with critical acclaim and rave reviews. The album received international airplay and garnered many accolades. Soul Reunion, Daniel’s second album was so well received, he landed a Cashbox Canada cover story. About Kathryn Kates

Kathryn won her first composition award at the age of eight. At 14, she bought her first guitar and within weeks she began writing simple socially conscious folk songs. Putting songwriting on hold, Kathryn carved out a career in the entertainment business, first as a dancer performing with Chubby Checker, Wilson Pickett and Illinois Jacquet. At 21, she was the youngest person to be granted an agents’ licence by American Federation of Musicians in Toronto, then opened a booking and public relations agency. Her experience in show business lead her into entertainment journalism. Kathryn is thrilled to partner up with Daniel and finally realize her childhood dream of songwriting.
