Black Sunday

by Danielle French

Album Notes
Danielle French Presents

Danielle French is a nomadic singer/songwriter based out of Calgary, Alberta who has been writing, recording and performing for 20 years. In 2012, Danielle was invited by pat mAcdonald (Grammy-nominated songwriter, formerly of the band Timbuk3) to take part in a series of songwriting intensives at the Holiday Music Motel in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Dozens of songwriters of varying genres gather for a week at a time, three times a year to co-write, perform and record together. Songwriters are paired through a random “spin-the-bottle” process, and this is where the magic happens.

Reflecting on the material she had co-written in her three years of attending these songwriting intensives, a group of songs emerged that proved to be transformational for Danielle, inspiring her to conjure up her latest project… Miss Scarlett and the Madmen!

In 2014 Danielle spent a month in Nashville working intensively with vocal coach Julie Christensen (Julie sang with Leonard Cohen for 10 years) in preparation for heading into the studio with co-producer Steve Hamilton at Makin' Sausage Music in Milwaukee, WI to record Miss Scarlett and the Madmen- Dark Love Songs (due for release in early 2016). An additional song was added to this project when Danielle traveled to London to see Kate Bush live at the Apollo- Danielle and co-producer Tom Gordon booked a side trip to visit Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio in Bath, England where they recorded Danielle's composition "Black Sunday", the first single.

Fronted by Danielle as the lead artist, songwriter and performer Miss Scarlett and the Madmen is a musical collective featuring a rotating cast of “Madmen”, bringing new instrumentations and arrangements to this collection of songs at each live show.

In performing the new Miss Scarlett and the Madmen material live, audiences have been enchanted... mesmerized... transfixed… intoxicated… spellbound.
