Album Notes
"Lucky Stars" is Dan Imhoff's fourth self-produced album and perhaps his most ambitious to date. “There is no shortage of great musicians wherever you go,” says Matt Wright, the engineer and co-producer on all four of Imhoff’s projects since 2010. A protege of acclaimed producer, Oz Fritz, and veteran of over 100 album recording projects, Wright continues, “but there is a lack is good material, and that is something Dan Imhoff brings to the vibrant Sonoma County music scene.”

“Lucky Stars” features nine new original songs that run a musical gamut from jazz infused pop melodies to country blues and ballads. Some of the songs draw from Imhoff’s life, such as “Lucky Stars” written for his daughter, and “Impossible Me,” a tribute on his wife’s birthday. There is also a cover of “Weasel and the White Boys Cool,” a track from one Ricki Lee Jones’ debut album. “She was so great at combining street smart lyrics with jazzy melodies,” he says, “a lifelong favorite who I still make a point to see in concert.”

Some key features of the album include:

a talented young rhythm section featuring bassist Melissa Hubbell and percussionist Taylor Cuffie, along with veteran keyboardist, Mike Emerson;

stellar vocal accompanists Shea Breaux Wells, Alison Harris, Craig Anderson, and Taylor Cuffie who add lush melodic textures to Imhoff’s lead vocals;

jazz inspired arrangements on country blues, ballads and shuffles;

horn players, Nick Hasty and Jason Thor, who add punchy solos and catchy backgrounds;

a solo by California 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion and cello virtuoso, Tristan Clarridge, of the California-based Bee Eaters.

“Lucky Stars” has been released on the Llama Shed Music label.
