Album Notes
"The Long Road Home is substantial work, with haunting, heartfelt tunes and resonant vocals in the tradition of deep pocket singers like Gordon Lightfoot and Randy Travis." - Jonathan Takiff - Philadelphia Daily News

"With his new record, The Long Road Home, there is no question that Dan May is at his very best." - Helen Leicht - WXPN - Philadelphia

The Long Road Home, the third CD by Dan May, shows that this talented singer-songwriter has not lost his knack for churning out catchy melodies with lyrics that hit the listener right in the solar plexus. A rootsy, americana tour de force.

Singer-songwriter Dan May's career path has taken more twists and turns than a corkscrew in a hurricane. He's worked as a grave-digger, television cameraman, short-order cook, nuclear missile security guard, sold clothing in a big and tall men's store, driven an ice cream truck, delivered furniture, wrote feature stories for a daily newspaper, unloaded trucks at an amusement park, and labored in a greenhouse. All before the age of 25.
Then, while studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled into an opera career that would see him singing with opera companies across the U.S. and Canada, and leaving a promising future as a singer-songwriter behind.
Cut to 15 years later, and a vocal-chord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera. Talk about a blessing in disguise. He is now back where he belongs, writing and performing his own songs, delivered in a voice that is as unique as it is interesting.

As he usually does , Dan writes all his songs only for me . Not really but it does seem that way . He knows and writes about things that touch deep and mean something to people . Hes not one of these , my woman done gone and left me now what am I gonna do , writers .Hes touches real people . He puts smiles where smile werent because you cant help but feel where hes coming from . Hes smart as a whip and kind as a soup line server . Ill always treasure every CD He makes from now on . Hes won my heart with His songs .^5 DAN

Impressive. I heard this fella for the first time (that I know of) on some morning show this week. I closed my eyes and was taken back to the times and talent of Gordon Lightfoot, which in my opinion, is a huge compliment. Then they mentioned that while he was recovering his voice from throat surgery, he was dancing professionally in some ballet company! Wow! A gifted artist for sure. I can't wait to own this CD.

Oh my, my
The first time I heard one of Dan May's songs, I was hooked. He's been reeling me in, hook, line and sinker ever since. His voice is simply amazing. His lyrics are piercing, intelligent and sensitive. I want to meet the people who inhabit his songs because I've shared their wonder, their joys and their heartbreak. If you could wear out an MP3 player like you could a vinyl album, I'd be well on my way with 'The Long Road Home.'

I've shared this with friends/coworkers....all have been very impressed. I play all 3 of Dan's CDs frequently and enjoy them every time. This one has a somewhat dark undercurrent but the melodies are solid and flow gracefully throughout.

I listen over and over
to this great CD. It is so melodic that I hum or sing along on all the songs. The lyrics are thoughtful and real. Today's music on the radio bores me to tears. This never bores me. It is so well written and sung that you will find yourself listening all the time. I'm about to wear this CD out. This is my first Dan May CD but it won't be my last. I'm going to get the others that people have mentioned. Keep making this great music, Dan.

This is a great CD. Dan's music is from the heart. Each song has a unique quality and the lyrics really reach to the soul of the listener. Great music!

While Dan May's first albums were remarkable achievements in lyrical and melodic expression, this new work of a more eclectic nature surprises the listener with it's subtle magic. From album scratches to Dobro, to Gospel back up singing, each song has the familiar Dan May cleverness with a touch of freshness breathed into the mix. My personal favorite, Nightbird, aches with honest longing in a contemporary lack of sentimentality. Every listen produces a new favorite...

My husband and I love Dan May's music so much that we even had it playing while delivering our son in March of this year. This album is fantastic and is as much fun to listen to as his other albums. Keep up the great work, Dan. We can't wait to hear what you do next!

I have all of Dan's cds and I love them all! His voice is so powerful and his sound is fresh and new. You'll never hear a voice that compares to his. His song writing is thought provoking and I am moved by his lyrics. This newest release is his best work yet, but if you haven't heard him yet then you must start with his first cd and work your way up. You'll see what I mean and you will have added some great music to your collection! Get listening!!
