Song Lyrics of the Ballad of Paul Bunyan:

The Ballad of Paul Bunyan

PAUL BUNYAN WAS TALLER THAN A MAINE PINE TREE
BIGGER THAN KING KONG IN THAT OLD MOVIE
SOME CLAIM PAUL AND HIS GREAT OX WHOSE TAIL WAS BLUE
BUT PAUL WAS BORN IN BANGOR, MAINE IN 1802

ON A MAP YOU'LL SEE LAKES SIDE BY SIDE IN MAINE
THOSE ARE THE FOOTPRINTS FILLED BY YEARS OF RAIN
THEY LEFT A MARK IN HISTORY LEFT SUCH AN IMPACT
OLE BABE THE BLUE OX PAUL BUNYAN THE LUMBERJACK

CHORUS

WELL PAUL WAS KING OF LUMBER WHEN LUMBER WAS KING
OH WHAT A TRACKER HE COULD TRACK ANYTHING
ONCE HE FOUND A CARCASS OF AN OLD MOOSE AT DAWN
HE FOLLOWED THE HOOF PRINTS BACK TO WHERE IT WAS BORN

WHERE EVER PAUL WOULD TRAVEL BABE WAS SURE TO GO
BECAUSE OF THE FRIENDSHIP PAUL WAS DEALT A BIG BLOW
WITH BABE'S EVERY STEP HE TORE UP TONS OF ROCK
TOO MANY TREES WERE SQUASHED BECAUSE OF PAUL'S BLUE OX

ALL THE LUMBERJACKS AND TOWN FOLK BEGAN TO COMPLAIN
THE WOODS WERE DISAPPEARING IN THE STATE OF MAINE
PAUL TRIED TO TIE BABE WITH A ROPE OF STRONGEST STEEL
BUT HE NIBBLED THROUGH THE STRAINS LIKE GRASS IN A FIELD

REPEAT CHORUS

WITH A HEAVY HEART PAUL KNEW WHAT HE MUST DO
PAUL KISSED THE GROUND HE LOVED THEN HE LED OLE BLUE
OUT OF THE MAINE WOODS TO ADVENTURES WAY OUT WEST
WHERE THEY DUG THE GRAND CANYON AND TOOK THEIR FINAL REST

REPEAT CHORUS

He is a legend that still lives in Americana. There are many intriguing questions that are solved by listening to the Ballad of Paul Bunyan. Do you know where Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox were born? How and where did he live when he was young and what did he do? Why did he need to leave the place of his birth to go out West? BRING BABE BACK TO BANGOR

Verse:

My Blue Ox Once Pulled, Mountains Of Wood,

I Can’t Move Like Lightning, Like I Could,

Spent Years In The Land Of The Midnight Sun,

Gotta Smell Maine Pines, Before We’re Done,

Verse:

Jumpin’ From Juneau To Bangor I Implore,

Maine Let Babe, Come Home Forever More,

Baby Babe Squashed, Too Many A Tree,

Oh So Big - So Clumsy Was He,

Verse:

My Blue Ox, Cracked Maine’s Coast Too,

I Squeezed The Granite, Back Like New,

Maine Faced Danger, Until Babe Grew,

Babe Would Have Broken, Maine In Two,

Music Interlude

Verse:

As We Set Out, For Our Western Phase,

Babe Whimpered, I Teared For Days,

Now We’re Headed Back To Bangor,

Back Home To Maine,

Cause All Of Maine Is Roaring, This Refrain,

Chorus:

Bring Babe Back Home To Bangor

Bring Babe Back Home To Maine

Bring Babe Back Home To Bangor

Bring Babe Back Home Today
