ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
SOPRANO DANNY VAN HOOF, PIANO ANNICK TRUYTS

Danny and Annick are Belgian musicians who got to know each other during their musical studies at The Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp. Nowadays they both are music teachers and performers of (mostly) classical music.
As a duo, they composed a concert program with Haydn Arias, which they performed several times in Belgium and The Netherlands. 'La moglie quando è buona' is one of these arias.

The warm, beautiful voice of Danny Van Hoof is much appreciated. Her refined control, professionalism and contagious expression always starts from a sense of purity.
Annick Truyts has a silk touch on the piano. With her bright tone formation she gives the music a transparent frame.

Aria recorded at Studio Kraaikant, Belgium.

ITALIAN TEXT AND TRANSLATION

La moglie quando è buona è sempre quella,
ne val ricchezza per farla cadere,
ma se'il marito a torto la martella,
la testa un giorno gli può far dolere
con il tricche trucche trà;
la fortuna del geloso con la luna sempre và.
Gelosi maritati a me sentite:
le moglie mai ristrette non lasciate,
perché quanto più voi la custodite
le porte all'ora son più spalancate,
con il tricche trucche trà;
la fortuna del geloso con la luna sempre và!

When a man has a good wife she wil be good forever,
even wealth can not make her fall.
But when her husband mistrusts her
one day he will suffer a big headache
with all her tricks and deception;
the good fate of a jealous man will leave with the moon.
Jealous husbands, listen to me:
never restrict your women,
because the more you guard her
the more you put the doors wide open
for all her tricks and deception;
the good fate of a jealous man will leave with the moon!

JOSEPH HAYDN (31/3/1732 - 31/5/1809)

Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer. He completed this aria when he was the court composer of Prince Nicolaas Esterházy in Eisenstadt.
It was the time of the post coaches, of the industrial revolution, of the tail wig for men and the wide crinoline skirts for women. The time of the French revolution and the appointement of George Washington as the first president of America!
Haydns music is very elegant, playful and brings you in a good mood.
