ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Dan Zalles is San Francisco Bay Area singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, film composer, solo artist, and member of bands The Outer Half, British Wire Gauge, Remnants, and Reckless Pedestrians. This collection of some his instrumental compositions is in the vein of his recent work as guitarist and primary writer in the prog jazz band The Wayward Monks. His Monks song, Polyunsaturated won an award in the International Songwriting Competition's Best Instrumental category. For this collection, he teams up with his son Ian, a passionate pianist with many years of classical studies and performances behind him, including a Rachmaninoff piano concerto with the Palo Alto Symphony Orchestra. Dan is also happy to have teamed up with his Outer Half bandmate Doug Marks, on drums. Each piece is unique, starting off with We Be, a lush ballad, followed by the swinging brassy rocker Serendipity, the acoustic classical-influenced Stream of Conscience, progressive rock of Nervous Freedom and acoustic jazz of Topsy Turvey. Lastly, there's Sourdough Suite, a multi-part stew of musical influences in the best progressive rock tradition.
