ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Like a Kelly Clarkson-Eva Cassidy-Ann Wilson sandwich with a side of Aretha...

Talent is back.

What does THAT mean, you ask?

Well..."Fusion" is a CD for people who yearn for elements of musicianship in their pop songs, as from days of yore. There's actual singing going on here. There are chord progressions driving things along as opposed to just repetitive beats. There are haunting melodies. There is honesty and raw emotion in darn near all the lyrics (well..."artistic license" is employed on occasion). There's a touch of sass and virtually no gimmick. In fact, the gimmick IS the talent.

Half the new CD by Darci Monet represents "rock-chick Darci" and the other half, "coffeehouse Darci." "Side A" is full production, full band, gut-busting pop/rock/blues a la Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Train, Heart, even a hint of Evanescence. "Side B" features heartfelt, stripped down acoustic balladry sure to please fans of Eva Cassidy, Sarah McLachlan, Billy Joel and Amy Grant. And as always, Darci sprinkles a healthy dose of soul over everything.

"Side A"

1) Jezebel
2) Paper Doll
3) Raging
4) Smoke and Leather
5) Go On (feat. Debby Holiday and Levi Kreis)

"Side B"

6) September
7) I Should Go
8) Breathe
9) In The Rain
10) The Rest of You (acoustic)
11) It Is Well With My Soul (duet w/Levi Kreis)
12) Une Berceuse des Colberts (Lullaby)

Enjoy!

The "fancy" bio:

Darci Monet is a classically and commercially trained professional vocalist, vocal coach, independent recording artist and award-winning songwriter. She gave her first professional performance at age eleven in Upstate New York in a local production of "Annie", began her professional career during college at Belmont University in Nashville as a studio singer, songwriter and recording artist and continues now in Los Angeles.

Darci's vocal credits include principal performances in film and television ("Napoleon Dynamite", "How I Met Your Mother"), live performances and master recording sessions with major label artists (Dolly Parton, Steve Winwood, Amy Grant, The Judds, etc.), songwriter demos (ABC sitcom "Hope and Faith") and national ads (Subway Corporation). Live, Darci currently performs backup for top ten Billboard-charting dance diva/rocker Debby Holiday.

Songs she has written have been featured in indie movies and major network television shows ("Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling, "The Apprentice", "The Young & The Restless", "Days of Our Lives"), won awards and honorable mentions in prestigious songwriting competitions (Unisong Songwriting Contest, Great American Song Contest, Billboard Songwriting Contest), and have been cut on major label albums (Music With A Twist, distributed by Columbia).

Stepping out from behind the scenes, Darci has just finished her new CD, was released on May 12, 2009. "Fusion" seamlessly brings together "Rock Chick-Darci" and "Coffeehouse-Darci," like a Kelly Clarkson, Eva Cassidy and Ann Wilson sandwich with a side of Aretha. She explains, “This project represents what I feel are the two strongest sides of me as a musician and writer. I decided that if I was going to take on the monumental task of recording an album again, I’d want both sides represented. So, ‘side A’ is the full band, full production pop/rock with a splash of soul I’m already known for. ‘Side B’ represents the quiet side that before now has mostly revealed itself in collaborations I’ve done on other artists’ projects.” Tracks featured on the album were written with Levi Kreis (on whose critically acclaimed albums "One of the Ones" and "The Gospel According to Levi" Darci is prominently featured as a writer and vocalist), Billboard chart-topping dance diva/rock chick Debby Holiday, Jeff Fedak, Chris Mitchell and Brandon Harvey. Fusion was produced by Darci and Steve Gryphon (Avril Lavigne, Gavin DeGraw, Debby Holiday), with pre-production by Ron Jagger (Michael W. Smith, dc Talk).

As a vocal coach, Darci's studio is exclusive and she accepts students by audition only. Darci's clients have appeared in national commercials, on Broadway, L.A.'s best clubs and everywhere in between. She also utilizes her coaching expertise as the author of the popular web column "A Working Musician's Review", in which she reviews contestants' performances on shows like "American Idol." She also sits as head judge for "Fame," L.A.'s best singing competition hosted by promoter Mario Pescatore.

Darci is SAG-eligible and her publishing company, Songs From The Fortress, is registered with BMI.

AMAZING
Darci Monet is an amazing talent. She can nail a rock song like nobody's business- "Jezebel" will make Ann Wilson stand up and go "daaaaammmnnn!" Then, Darci will sing a ballad that will bring tears to your eyes- and I'm not usually one for ballads. This lady knows what she's doing, and while I expect no less from her, she still manages to surprise me with her powerful vocals. This album is a must for any real musician's collection.

A great mix by a great artist
I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of Darci Monet's newest album...those who purchase it will not be disappointed. In this day and age of syntho pop and pumped up vocals, it is a treat to listen to someone who can really SANG! Darci is an uncompromised talent and listening to her album makes you move, groove and feel better. And the fact that she writes/co-writes almost all of her songs, makes it even more real and believable.

Yeah. Oh yeah.
Darci uses "Jesebal" to grab your hearts and mind and does not let go until the last notes of "Une Berceuse des Colberts" fade away. Contrary to the Bimbo Divas, Screaming Mimis and, lately, Groanettes clogging the airways, Darci doesn't need tricks or gimmicks to be be good. Her power is her own. You have to listen to the album at least twice as soon as you unwrap it (best enjoyed with a nice, chilled glass of rose wine. Make it good stuff); once to allow the vocals to hit you and a second to focus on the melodies and lyrics (especially the lyrics for me). What a pleasure it was to discover this album.
