Album Notes
Cancioncitas De Los Andes/Little Songs Of The Andes

What does music from the Andes mountains of South America sound like? Most people say that it is magical – with the distinct sound of pan pipes, bamboo flutes and stringed instruments like the guitar and the charango, a delicate instrument made from the shell of an armadillo.

World music artist, DARIA (Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou) spent her teenage years in rural Peru and she has recorded some of her favorite songs from that region in this recording. There are children’s songs such as “Yaw, Yaw”, carnival songs, popular songs (huaynos) and a beautiful version of one of the best-known songs from the Andes: El Condor Pasa.

Performing with DARIA on this cd are members of the band, SONQO. DARIA performed in the USA with SONQO for almost a decade and the group features the following talented players who are actively involved in preserving and promoting the folklore and music of Andean cultures:

Jorge Gomez - performing on several sizes and varieties of pan pipes (zampoñas) and flutes (quena)

Leonardo Vera – performing on guitar, charango, bombo and harmony vocals

Robert “Fabricio” Hernandez performing on quena (flute)

This mini-cd is available digitally and coming soon is a children’s guide to “Cancioncitas” which will be available from Daria’s Little Village Store as well as the Eduational Site: Teacher’s PayTeachers.
