Album Notes
"Austin's Darin Layne and his confident fingers fly across the fretboard, then the next minute he might choose to calmly caress the neck of chosen guitar. His latest CD "The Fisherman" takes a jam-band approach to his signature jazz sound, fusing the styles of Pat Metheny, John Scofield and Grant Green with his own originality"
-Jay Trachtenberg 90.5 K.U.T./Austin Chronicle

Darin Layne began performing and composing on the piano at age 4 and played cello in New England Youth symphonies. Later, he studied alto sax, performing jazz in the Boston area while still in elementary school. At age 16 he moved to Texas, graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, and earned a bachelors degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of North Texas in Denton.

Darin's strong compositions reflect a unique approach based on melody, combining elements of many genres, including Rock and R&B. His work has been featured on CNBC's program "American Made" and in numerous film festivals including Spike and Mike's festival of animation.

An experienced performer, Darin has played thousands of shows across the U.S. and Europe. His debut trio c.d. "The Fisherman", which was recorded live with no overdubs, reflects his originality and versatility. Intended to be a double album, the first half represents a more introspective "ECM" style, while the second half brings a more aggressive rock flavor.

"The Fisherman" features grammy nominated bassist Chris Maresh (Eric Johnson), drummer J.J. Johnson (John Mayer), drummer Mike Longoria (Patti Griffin), Drummer Rob Kazenel (Boot Sauce), and drummer Jason McKenzie (Atash).
