Album Notes
the darklings is a project from corner tour and down river's c. ryder cooley and hazy loper's patrick kadyk. all on san francisco's pioneering label, out of round records. the sound of ryder's accordian, wurlitzer organ and occasional guitar combined with kadyk's banjo mix with both voices to create a ghostly sound that is tender and haunting.

Tender, artistic, dark, spooky yet lovely !!
The darklings (along with DownRiver) is sitting on top of my
'accordion' collection. Carolyn Ryder Cooley's tender female vocals perches ever-so-slightly on Patricks accordionistic waves to create a smooth, lullaby-style artistic masterpiece.

C Ryder Cooley rocks...the quintessential female voice that I was searching for...reminds me a lot of Comus's Bobbie Watson (from First Utterance).

Kudos to the artists and must-buy for folk-music fans

Yarrrrrrr...This be a good CD, matey
I discovered this CD just searching around CDBaby randomly. It was so fortunate that I happened upon this wonderfully unique album. Everyone should have a CD like this. It sounds like pirate ghost music. Not that this is a musical genre, but that's my best estimate. All of the songs are well written and performed. Great for when you're in the mood for something a little different and certainly at Halloween.

Beautiful and truly unique
I was just looking aimlessly around the site when I happened to stumble upon DESERT SHIP. I sampled the songs and immediately fell in love with the music. It felt new, but at the same time it felt oddly familiar. Haunting is a good way to describe many of the songs, but that doesn't subtract from the album's beauty. I never expected to be so moved by banjo and accordian! If you are a fan of folk music, you'll love it. If you are a fan of creepy music, you'll love it. If you love to hear anything unique or just good music in general, I whole-heartedly reccommend this album.
